Minimum Qualifications • Five or more years of experience with administration, support and troubleshooting of a Mass Notification system
• 3 years providing IT technical support
• 3 years supporting automatic email interfaces, RSS feeds, and automated dialing
• 3 years troubleshooting complex IT systems
• 1 year designing and conducting acceptance testing
• Experience with emergency response activations
• Experience demonstrating and conducting training on mass notification
The following degrees, preferably in Computer Science, may substitute for the general experience as indicated:
• Associate’s degree and four years of experience
• Associate’s degree including 15 semester credit hours in computer science and three years of experience
• Bachelor’s degree and three years of experience
• Bachelor’s degree including 15 semester credit hours in computer science and two years of experience
• Master’s degree in computer science or related field substitutes for an additional year of experience
• Doctorate in computer science or related field substitutes for an additional two years of experience
Preferred Qualifications:
• Experience with the NY-Alert Mass Notification system
Duties Description Under the direction of an Information Technology Specialist 4, SG-25, in the Public Safety Portfolio Geographic Information Systems (GIS) Office, the Project Assistant will support the NY-Alert application. The NY-Alert application is a mass notification system, supporting over 35 counties and over 25 State agencies. This position will provide support for customers and users, while assisting with upcoming milestones related to the recent transition of the application from an in-house system to a cloud hosted service. Specific duties include, but are not limited to:
• Support of the NY-Alert program, including but not limited to: training new organizational administrators and new authorized notifiers; Administrative maintenance; Monitoring; Troubleshooting; Creation of new organizations and importing new users
• Provide 24x7x365 afterhours support via on-call rotational duty assignments
• Oversee the creation/modification of notifier, organization, and security roles and permissions
• Oversee the importation of organizational or user data
• Manage the Vendor development team to resolve issues as well as introduce new functionality and requested features
• Oversee Quality Assurance and acceptance testing
• Provide and interpret statistical data to management for capacity planning
• Oversee the Indian Point nuclear power plant Joint Information Center (JIC) on behalf of NY-Alert for actual events, drills and exercises as needed
• Coordinate with Public Safety Customer Care Center (CCC) as needed to resolve notifier issues (24x7x365)
• Troubleshoot profiles, messages, reports, etc. with organizations, notifiers and/or subscribers
• Train notifiers (in person or via the web) in group or one-on-one sessions
• Prepare support/training documentation for new organizations, notifiers and subscribers
• Provide in-person or online demonstrations of NY-Alert to interested organizations
• Support the NYS Orders of Protection system in conjunction with the NYS Sheriffs Association
