Minimum Qualifications MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Must be reachable on the Civil Service list.

Candidates must have one year of permanent service as a Senior Companion Program Coordinator and be eligible for lateral transfer; OR be in a title deemed appropriate for transfer via Section 70.1 of the Civil Service Law;

Five years of administrative experience coordinating an organized volunteer program in which the primary responsibility was recruiting, training, orientation, and supervision of volunteers. One of these years of experience must have included administering a program which provided services primarily for individuals with developmental disabilities.

If appointed on provisional status, you must participate in the next Civil Service examination(s) and be a reachable candidate in order to obtain permanent status and maintain your position.

Duties Description POSITION DESCRIPTION:
Collaborates with executive management to establish and implement statewide policies for Senior Companion Programs; provides program oversight; and ensures compliance with Federal, State, and OPWDD regulations.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

• Organize, coordinate, implement and expand the Oneida, Lewis, Herkimer and Madison counties Senior Companion Program in accordance with the Agency's mission to foster community inclusion, enrich people's lives and enhance independence of individuals.
• Advertise, recruit and screen prospective Senior Companions following guidelines established by OPWDD, the Justice Center and the Corporation for National and Community Service.
• Incorporate a person-centered approach to matching Senior Companions and individuals in meaningful assignments.
• Develop and implement an orientation and on-going training program for Senior Companions that meets the requirements of OPWDD, the Justice Center and the Corporation for National and Community Service.
• Complete, submit and/or retain data/reports in the areas of: Senior Companion evaluations, profile for impact statements, assignment review, time & attendance, and others required by local, state and federal agencies.
• Act as a spokesperson and liaison to voluntary agencies and community organizations, to facilitate program goals.
• Participate in monthly/as scheduled statewide senior companion coordinator teleconferences hosted by the OPWDD Senior Companion Program Manager
• Create features for the internal newsletter showcasing senior companions and the individuals they support.
• Complete bi-weekly stipend roll, to ensure Senior Companions receive their stipend and reimbursements for mileage and meals in a timely fashion.
• Attend the annual Senior Companion Conference held in the Capital District area for training and networking.
• Travel within some of the 8 counties of the DDSO (Cayuga, Cortland, Herkimer, Lewis, Madison, Oneida, Onondaga, Oswego Counties) is expected, including various community organizations. Mileage is compensated per Office of State Comptroller rules and regulations.
• Provide coverage to the western counties Senior Companion Program as warranted.
• Function as CNYDDSOO Communications Liaison to the OPWDD Regional Communications Manager & within the agency seeking and developing features for inclusion in the OPWDD People First newsletter and the Info Central.
• Support the Employee of the Year/Employee Support venues, lending year-round support to the Employee Support Coordinator and direct support to the eastern counties Steering Committee and mini committees charged with developing ways to showcase the strengths and varied talent of staff from the Regional Office, DWTM, DES, and state operations, & boost employee morale and wellness.
• Assume responsibility for special projects as applicable.

Additional Comments The filling of the Sr. Companion Program Coordinator SG 16 is dependent upon prior approval being obtained from the Division of the Budget.
