Minimum Qualifications 30 semester college credit hours, including or supplemented by 12 semester credit hours in forestry, which must include at least one course in three or more of the following areas: pathology, entomology, forest biology, silvics, silviculture, forest mensuration, forest protection, forest soils, dendrology, botany or land surveying.
OR
One year of diversified, technical forestry experience in two or more of the following areas: forest management, including sale and removal of timber products, nursery management, including the transplanting of tree or shrub seedlings; forest pest management, including control of diseases and insect pests.
Duties Description Employee will work under the direction of a professional Forester to conduct work on State Forests. Employee may be required to work alone in rough terrain and inclement weather. Work may include: Assistance with timber sales, collection of forest inventory data, boundary line painting and maintenance, maintenance of state land facilities, garbage pickup, trail construction, duties related to organization and record keeping of equipment, signs, trail markers and tree paint, as well as any other duties required for management of State Forests. Employee should be familiar with and able to use the following equipment efficiently: 10 BAF prism, clinometer, tree scale stick and GPS. Required skills include: Tree identification, Tree diameter and height measurement, GPS navigation, GIS data manipulation.
Additional Comments Must have valid driver’s license or demonstrate the ability to meet the transportation needs of the position. Must be able to negotiate difficult terrain, work in remote areas and in adverse weather conditions. Travel may be required. Must be able to lift and move objects up to 50 pounds.
Position location will be based out of the Warrensburg office, however, may include day travel to other offices within the Region to assist with regional needs. Candidates must possess a valid New York State Driver's License at the time of appointment, or demonstrate their ability to meet the transportation needs of the job.
These are seasonal, hourly appointments ending no later than 3/31/2019. Program needs and funding will determine actual termination date, which may be prior to dates listed in duties description. Actual work schedule, duties, and travel requirements may vary and will be discussed at the interview.
