Minimum Qualifications Competitive Minimum Qualifications:

As this position requires travel, the appointee must have a valid license to operate a motor vehicle in New York State and have a motor vehicle or otherwise demonstrate their capacity to meet the transportation needs of the position.

52.7 Non-Competitive Promotion (NCP) Qualifications:
To be eligible for NCP, candidates must be in the Department of Labor promotion field and have one year or more of permanent, contingent-permanent or 55 b/c service as an Investigative Officer 1, Investigative Officer 1 (Chinese Language), Investigative Officer 1 (Korean Language), or an Investigative Officer 1 (Spanish Language). If 3 or fewer qualified Department of Labor an Investigative Officer 1, Investigative Officer 1 (Chinese Language), Investigative Officer 1 (Korean Language), or Investigative Officer 1 (Spanish Language), respond to this posting, Civil Service may approve the permanent appointment of one of the qualified candidates without further examination.

Note: Non-competitive refers to not competing in an examination; the appointment will be competitive.

Provisional Qualifications:
Must be a Department of Labor employee with at least one year of permanent, contingent-permanent, or 55-b/55-c service as an Investigative Officer 1, Investigative Officer 1 (Chinese Language), Investigative Officer 1 (Korean Language), or an Investigative Officer 1 (Spanish Language). The appointed candidate would have to take, pass and be reachable on the next holding of the examination to be appointed permanently. Only Department of Labor employees can apply. External candidates cannot be considered.

Note: It is essential that you describe your qualifying education and/or experience as completely as possible on your application. Additionally, in accordance with Civil Service Law, provisional service immediately prior to a permanent appointment to this title is now credited towards the completion of probation upon permanent appointment.

Reassignment Qualifications:
Current Department of Labor employees only, with at least one year of permanent, contingent-permanent, or 55b/c service in an Investigative Officer 2 (Labor Standards) if you have less than one year, you must be reachable on the current Investigative Officer 2 (Labor Standards) eligible list for this location if one exists.

Ability to initiate and maintain relationships across a diverse set of stakeholders.

Duties Description Standard Duties:
Under the supervision of an Investigative Officer 3 (Labor Standards), oversee the activities of a team of Investigative Officer 1’s engaged in a wide variety of investigations relating to the administration and enforcement of New York State Labor Law, present cases at conferences; testify at hearings; handle complex investigations; and interact with the public and regulated community.

Additional Comments As this position requires travel, the appointee must have a valid license to operate a motor vehicle in New York State and have a motor vehicle or otherwise demonstrate their capacity to meet the transportation needs of the position.

Telecommuting will be discussed at the time of interview.

This position may require a fingerprint background check prior to appointment.

Position specific job duties may include occasional altered work schedule or job assignments which require availability and willingness to work occasional evenings and/or out-stationed assignments.
