Job Specifics
Minimum Qualifications This title is part of the New York Hiring for Emergency Limited Placement Statewide Program (NY HELPS).
For the duration of the NY HELPS Program, this title may be filled via a non-competitive appointment, which means no examination is required but all candidates must meet the minimum qualifications of the title for which they apply.
To be eligible for appointment under NY HELPS, candidates must meet the minimum qualifications below:
Promotion: A New York State Professional Engineers license and current registration, and one year of service as an Assistant Engineer (Electrical).
Open Competitive: A New York State Professional Engineer's license and current registration AND a qualifying bachelor's degree or higher as listed below. OR a New York State Professional Engineer's license and current registration AND one year of full-time qualifying engineering experience as listed below.
Qualifying degrees: Computer Engineering, Computer Engineering Technology, Electrical and Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Electrical Engineering Technology, Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Electrical Power Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Electronics Engineering Technology, or Engineering Science with a recognized concentration in any of the above listed engineering degrees.
Qualifying experience: One year of full-time engineering experience in electrical systems.
Candidates may also be eligible via the following:
Reassignment - Currently in the title and an employee of DEC.
or
Reinstatement Eligible - Previously held the title on a permanent competitive basis or held a title as indicated under the transfer eligible section on a permanent competitive basis.
or
Transfer Eligible - One year of permanent competitive service at Salary Grade 22 or higher and eligible to transfer via Section 70.1 of the Civil Service Law. Duties Description This position resides within the Division of Operations' Bureau of Design & Construction Services. Duties will include, but not be limited to:
-Prepare AutoCAD plans, specifications, design details, bid documents and estimates for electrical projects at various state facilities for new or existing buildings. Projects range from new construction to rehabilitation of or additions to existing systems.
-Review consultant design documents to ensure compliance with current standards.
-Perform studies for electrical energy conservation and renewable energy for existing and future electrical projects.
-Provide construction support and check shop drawings and equipment lists against drawings and specifications prepared by others.
-Answer questions from bidders, contractors and field staff.
-At project completion, coordinate with the project inspector and contractor in the preparation of as-built drawings.
-Make site visits to facilities across the state to establish project scopes and provide construction support.
Additional Comments Must have a valid driver’s license or demonstrate the ability to meet the transportation needs of the position.
Must be able to work in remote areas.
Must be able to work in adverse weather conditions.
Travel may be required.
Overnight travel may be required.

For new State employees appointed to graded positions, the annual salary is the hiring rate (beginning of the Salary Range) of the position. Promotion salaries are calculated by the NYS Office of the State Comptroller in accordance with NYS Civil Service Law, OSC Payroll rules and regulations and negotiated union contracts.
