Duties Description The incumbent will assist in the oversight and implementation of the Division of Materials Management’s Region 3 Solid Waste program including program development and support functions. Duties will include applying knowledge of environmental science and environmental legislation, rules, and regulations to identify and develop solutions to environmental issues within the Solid Waste program area; and providing technical advice, consultation and guidance on programs and issues to program staff, agency officials, consultants and members of the regulated community and the general public.

The incumbent will also be responsible for the inactive landfill program, recycling, sustainability, site remediation, performing permit work, grants, compliance and enforcement in the solid waste management program. Duties will include working with and providing oversight of the Department's contractors; reviewing and approving environmental monitoring programs, investigation plans, landfill repair and remediation plans; conducting grant inspections; participating on the Region's sustainability team; managing recycling outreach programs; preparing written reports and recommendations for supervisor review; assisting with file management and other work as assigned.

The incumbent will be responsible for supervising various staff including entry level positions and interns. Duties will include developing performance plans and associated reviews; reviewing and approving timesheets and expense reports; and developing and completing program specific training for new staff.

Additional Comments Must have a valid driver’s license or demonstrate the ability to meet the transportation needs of the position.
Use of personal protection equipment, including a respirator, will be required.
Must be able to negotiate difficult terrain.
Must be able to work in remote areas.
Must be able to work in adverse weather conditions.
Travel may be required.
Overtime may be required.
Overnight travel may be required.
Weekends and holidays may be required.
Must be available to respond to after-hours emergencies.
Must successfully complete (or have completed) the 40-hour OSHA 1910.120 training course and all other required training.
Must complete an annual Health and Safety Program including medical monitoring, fit testing, and 40 (or 8) hour OSHA HAZWOPER certification.
Must be able to lift and move objects up to 50 pounds.
Telecommuting may be available, will be discussed at interview.
