Transfer Eligible – one year of permanent competitive service in a title designated as appropriate for transfer in accordance with Section 70.1 of Civil Service Law: Professional Engineer 2 Civil, Professional Engineer 2 Electrical

Duties Description This position of Professional Engineer 2 (Environmental), item #47043, is located in the Division of Environmental Remediation in Remedial Bureau A.

1.Supervise a Remedial Section in the Division of Environmental Remediation, Remedial Bureau A.

2.Manage a section of Project Managers who provide oversight of the Inactive Hazardous WasteDisposal Program (Superfund) sites including the characterization, investigation, evaluation, cleanup andmonitoring of Superfund sites.

3.Section also oversees the implementation of remedial program at Department of Defense sites,Department of Energy sites, and Brownfield Cleanup Program sites.

4.Perform administrative duties regarding time and attendance, travel, budgeting, evaluations, etc., andprovide direction and guidance to staff to ensure compliance with Department policy.

5.Ensure that workload is distributed and managed in order that Bureau program initiatives are met andprojects are kept on schedule.

6.Prepare annual work plans and provide clear direction to staff regarding priorities. Provide technicalguidance/direction to staff.

7.Communicate effectively with peers, supervisor, and management. Keep the Bureau Director informedof the status of high-profile cases through verbal and written communications. Prepare and makepresentations to the Bureau Director and DEC management as needed.

8.Utilize, maintain, and secure equipment assigned to the program. Ensure program files aremaintained, well-organized, and accessible.

Additional Comments Must have a valid driver’s license or demonstrate the ability to meet the transportation needs of the position.
Use of personal protection equipment, including a respirator, will be required.
Travel may be required.
Overtime may be required.
Overnight travel may be required.
Must successfully complete (or have completed) the 40-hour OSHA 1910.120 training course and all other required training.
Must complete an annual Health and Safety Program including medical monitoring, fit testing, and 40 (or 8) hour OSHA HAZWOPER certification.
Telecommuting may be available, will be discussed at interview.
