Job Specifics

Minimum Qualifications Mohawk Valley Psychiatric Center is recruiting for a Mental Hygiene Therapy Assistant 1 to supervise Mental Health Therapy Aides providing direct care services to individual diagnosed with mental illness. Candidates within State Service can apply.

Minimum Qualifications:
Mental Hygiene Therapy Assistant 1 positions are normally filled by the Paraprofessional Careers in Mental Hygiene eligible list and currently there is no eligible list. Candidate within State Service can be considered for provisional appointment if they have 1 year of service as a Direct Support Assistant, Direct Support Assistant (IRM), Direct Support Assistant (Manual Communications) [formerly known as Developmental Aide, Developmental Aide (IRM), Developmental Aide (Manual Communications)], Developmental Disabilities Secure Care Treatment Aide 1, Licensed Practical Nurse, Mental Health Therapy Aide, Secure Care Treatment Aide 1, Teaching Assistant, Training Aide, or in an language parenthetic for these titles.

OR

Candidates within State Service can be considered for a competitive class appointment if they have 1 year of permanent competitive or 55-b/55-c service in a title eligible for transfer under Section 70.1 of the Civil Service Law.

Please Note: After 2 years of satisfactory experience as a Mental Hygiene Therapy Assistant 1, you will advance to the Mental Hygiene Therapy Assistant 2, SG-13, without further examination.

Duties Description As a Mental Hygiene Therapy Assistant 1, you are part of a treatment team and duties will include:
• Assisting in the development of treatment plans
• Supervising and monitoring the implementation of treatment plans and activities
• Observing and documenting individual behaviors and responses to treatment
• Scheduling staff assignments
• Providing staff training
