Job Specifics

Minimum Qualifications Must be currently certified by the American Health Information Management Association as a Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA);

OR

Currently certified by the American Health Information Management Association as a Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) AND have two years of full-time professional (post-RHIT) health information management experience*.

*Professional health information management experience must include: reviewing medical records with physicians, coding and indexing diseases and operative procedures, compiling statistics required for hospital service analysis, and responsibility for all technical aspects of the implementation of a facility health information management program.

Duties Description Under the supervision of a Health Information Management Administrator 3, The CNYPC Outpatient Unit HIM Administrator 1’s specific duties include but are not limited to the following:

• Serves as the Health Information Management liaison to CNYPC for assigned satellite and mental health units in correctional settings for all regions of NY
• Required to travel to all Corrections-Based Units (CBO) to conduct and complete accurate record reviews of OMH records
• Prepares record review reports for assigned satellite and mental health units and disseminates them to Administration for appropriate follow up
• Provides training and guidance to clerical staff and new HIM staff in the satellite and mental health units
• Educates unit staff on documentation requirements, confidentiality, record maintenance, MHARS training, CNET training, FPMS, REMS training and Joint Commission Standards
• Assists in preparing units for Joint Commission accreditation through record review, providing environmental suicide risk assessments and leading tracers
• Will assist outside entities such as the Joint Commission, The Justice Center, etc. with collection of documentation for reviews.
• Analyzes and evaluates active records for accuracy, completeness, and continuity
• Monitoring of electronic system data accuracy and completion of error corrections, such as MHARS voids, C# merges, update/add social security numbers, unconfirmed reports, etc.
• Assist all staff in corrections-based units with questions on policies and procedures
• Assist Outpatient HIM Director with updating policies and procedures for CBO
• Reviews purged records for completeness
• Assists staff at satellite units in preparing and completing terminated record reviews
• Assists all CBO satellite units in completing release of information requests
• Assists/prepares OMH records for archive pickups twice a year

This position covers Multiple CBO units. Required to travel statewide to cover other units as needed.
There is no remote work.

This position is at Central New York Psychiatric Center's Elmira Satellite Unit located on the grounds of Elmira Corrections Facility in Chemung County.
