Job Specifics

Duties Description As a Secure Care Treatment Aide 2, you would supervise Secure Care Treatment Aides 1 and assist in the psychiatric treatment, rehabilitation, and the care and safety of individuals diagnosed with mental illness or with emotional or social behavior problems. This may include those who are considered to be manipulative, and/or dangerous to themselves and/or others. You would participate in active treatment programming and be responsible for providing a safe, secure, stable environment within which these patients can be given the intensive care and behavioral interactions needed for stabilization and treatment.

Minimum Qualifications Candidates must be reachable for appointment on the current Civil Service eligible list for the title

OR

Transfer Opportunity – Candidates within State Service can be considered transfer to a competitive class position if they have one year of permanent competitive or 55-b/55-c service in a title eligible for transfer under Section 70.1 of the Civil Service Law.

OR

be eligible to transfer via Section 70.1 of the Civil Service Law. In order to be eligible for 70.1 transfer, candidates must have at least one year of permanent competitive or 55-b/55-c status in a qualifying title within two salary grades of the SG-14 level.

OR

For provisional appointment - In the event that there is not a valid eligible list, employees of the New York State Office of Mental Health who have 1 year of permanent competitive or 55-b/55-c service as a Secure Care Treatment Aide 1, G-11 or Secure Care Treatment Aide 1(Spanish Language), G-11 may be qualified for provisional appointment.

Candidates appointed provisionally must take the next scheduled Civil Service examination for this title, and their score must be reachable on the resulting eligible list before they can be permanently appointed. Candidates who do not pass the examination or achieve a reachable score may not be retained.

Background checks will be required.

Incumbents must successfully complete at least ten days of intensive specialized training within the first six months of employment on a secure care unit as part of the probationary period.

Candidates may also be required to take and pass a physical examination as well as a physical agility test prior to appointment.

If you are appointed and subsequently listed as an excluded individual or entity on any of these lists (or excluded from any other federal or federally assisted program), you may be terminated from your employment.

2. License Requirement: Depending on assignment, you may be required to possess a valid license to operate a motor vehicle in New York State at the time of appointment and continually, thereafter.

This position is eligible for a Down State Adjustment of $3,400.
