Job Specifics
Minimum Qualifications Qualified candidates will possess the following education, skills, and competencies:
•High school degree or equivalent
•Pleasant and professional telephone skills
•Experience in managing a multi-line phone system
Duties Description The New York State Senate is seeking applications for a motivated, organized, and detail oriented individual to fill the position of Telephone Operator in the Maintenance and Operations Department. The professional for this role will be responsible for creating a positive first impression for all visitors and employees alike.
Primary responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
•Transferring incoming calls to the appropriate offices
•Looking up numbers as needed for Senate staff for members of the Legislature
•Providing members of the public with telephone numbers for their elected representative
•Making long distance and conference calls on behalf of Senate members and staff
•Notify certain Senate offices and the public the time of adjournment and when the Senators are scheduled to return to session
•Connect Senators and staff with Assembly members, Commissioners, Governor’s staff and other State agencies
•Provide coverage for offices and forward phones as requested
Additional Comments This is a full-time position, Monday through Friday, 9.00AM to 5.00PM requiring flexibility during session hours. Starting salary is $30,000 to $35,000, commensurate with experience.
