Job Specifics
Duties Description The mission of our o?ce is to ensure that our constituents in the district and all New Yorkers are provided with access to resources and are empowered in NYS through equitable and inclusive policies and practices. The Community A?airs Director is responsible for providing community guidance to the Senator and running the everyday operation and supervision of the Senator’s team of Constituent Liaisons.
Their main responsibility is to build strong partnerships with community leaders, civic organizations, block/residential associations, city/state/federal government o?ces, and individual constituents to address and solve everyday issues that impact the district.
The Community A?airs Director position is full time, salaried, and located in Senate District 52, in Binghamton.
ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
•Create macro and micro community development and outreach strategies and practices with member for the o?ce and external relations
•Establishes, manages and implements e?ective communications and public involvement strategies districtwide to help provide timely, accurate, understandable information to constituents
•Develops and implements plans to increase awareness of state programs and participation in the state’s decision-making processes.
•Directs the development of outreach programs to encourage citizen participation in state government and to encourage use of public programs and facilities
•Serve as a liaison between Senate o?ce and Intergovernmental A?airs and Majority Conference Services (External A?airs Director)
COORDINATE CONSTITUENT SERVICES
•Actively engaging constituents and directly providing constituent services on an array of issues areas, including (but not limited to) social services, housing, unemployment, and education
•Managing and supervising constituent caseloads for Constituent Liaisons, including case assignments, strategy development, documentation, and resolution
•Developing and implementing guidelines as needed to ensure equal distribution of cases among sta? and quality control of services provided to the constituents
•Holding bi-weekly case review meetings with each sta? member to determine ongoing caseloads, discuss issues, and set strategies for addressing and closing cases in a timely manner
•Monitoring the New York State Senate Bluebird database and working with the Community A?airs Team to ensure casework is properly documented in the database in a timely manner – knowledge of the New York State Senate Bluebird database is not required
•Providing status updates to the Chief of Sta? on caseloads, community issues, events, sta? concerns, scheduling issues, and any other matter that may require the team’s attention
•Attending events, community board, city/town council, and local meetings on behalf of the Senator
•Supervising the planning and execution of annual community events in the District
•Collaborating with sta? to address community concerns by developing and implementing strategies that utilizes tools at the team's disposal, including correspondence, communication platforms, forums, events, and meetings
•Building and maintaining strong partnerships with community leaders, civic organizations, block/residential associations through Senator Webb’s outreach initiative, along with city/state/federal government o?ces, and individual constituents to bring resources to the district, resolve issues, and propel the Senator’s community and policy agendas
Minimum Qualifications •Extensive community engagement experience
•Ability to research, identify and share best practices in implementing organizational goals and strategies as it relates to community relations
•Understanding of legislative policies, state laws, state grant programs, and other relevant state and local and federal resources
•Excellent written and verbal communication skills
•Education/Degree- Bachelor's or advanced degree (required)
•Familiarity with the district, as well as the concerns and challenges facing its residents
•Experience with civic engagement and outreach in a political environment
•Time ?exibility-Ability to work long hours and some weekends and evenings, as necessary
•Demonstrated history of working collaboratively
•Ability to travel within the district and to and from Albany for major events is desirable

Salary range is $60,000 to $65,000, commensurate with education and experience.
