Job Specifics
Duties Description The Architect 1 duties in Building, Standards & Codes will include but are not limited to the following:
• Evaluate highly technical code and building science questions and develop a detailed, comprehensive, and accurate response.
• Ensuring that the content of verbal responses is comprehensive, accurate, explains the material clearly and concisely.
• Deliver training to large groups (300-400 students) to ensure that the training is delivered properly, accurately, and professionally.
• Assist in providing regional support across the state assigned; Regional support in the form of training, technical assistance, and potentially direct enforcement is provided as assigned.
• Provide support and direct staff in the form of training, plan reviews, inspections, and responses to questions concerning the proper application of the codes and similar activities and ensure that they are technically accurate and are provided in an effective manner.
• Review, analyze, prepare written reports, and work with counsel to recommend new or revised provisions of law, regulation, or code, concerning the local government programs for administration and enforcement of the Uniform Fire Prevention and Building Codes and the State Energy Code.
• Prepare proposed written technical changes to New York State’s codes and the International Model Codes and make verbal presentations.
• Assist in updating the New York State’s Uniform Code, Energy Code, and other regulations.
Minimum Qualifications NY HELPS
This title is part of the New York Hiring for Emergency Limited Placement Statewide Program (NY HELPS).
For the duration of the NY HELPS Program, this title may be filled via a non-competitive appointment, which means no examination is required but all candidates must meet the minimum qualifications of the title for which they apply.
At a future date (within one year of permanent appointment), it is expected employees hired under NY HELPS will have their non-competitive employment status converted to competitive status, without having to compete in an examination. Employees will then be afforded all of the same rights and privileges of competitive class employees of New York State. While serving permanently in a NY HELPS title, employees may take part in any promotion examination for which they are qualified.
NON-COMPETITIVE MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
New York State Professional Architect’s License and current registration.

COMPETITIVE MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Permanent service in this title or one year of permanent competitive or 55 B/C service in a title SG-22 or higher and otherwise eligible for transfer under Civil Service Law.

55 B/C APPOINTMENT:
This position is eligible for 55B/C designation and candidates with 55B/C eligibility are encouraged to apply. Candidates must meet any open competitive minimum qualifications and must submit their current 55B/C eligibility letter along with their application.
