Position Information:
The Supervisor of Security Services will oversee the New York State Fair’s security program, developing, implementing, and evaluating safety and security plans, procedures, and internal controls. They will address security issues, manage security personnel selection, training, and evaluation, and supervise the overall safety and security operations for the Fairgrounds. This includes acting as the liaison with agency health and safety officials, providing technical expertise to managers and contracted security staff, and administering contracts for private security services. The supervisor will ensure compliance with laws and regulations, work with the Emergency Management Coordinator to develop response systems and collaborate with external law enforcement when needed. Responsibilities also include overseeing the maintenance of security systems, developing, and implementing in-house and vendor-based security training, communicating updates to security protocols, and preparing reports on security activities and incident responses.

The Supervisor Security Services is a full-time position working 37.5 hours per week, Monday-Friday, with potential for extended and weekend hours as needed. This position will start as temporary while shadowing the current incumbent. This position has the potential to become permanent within six months.

Salary and Benefits:
Supervisor Security Services position is in the Management Confidential (M/C) Salary Grade (SG) 20. The starting salary of the M/C SG-20 is $72,160/year.

Minimum Qualifications NY HELPS Minimum Qualifications:
Seven years of experience in managing the security and/or emergency management program for a public or private sector organization with multiple regional locations, or centralized security force staffed over multiple shifts. Two years of the experience must have included the supervision and training of security staff.

Alternate Minimum Qualifications:
You may also be eligible for appointment to this position if you meet the following minimum qualifications.

Reinstatement Under Rule 5.4: Applicants may be appointed to this position permanently if they were previous permanent New York State employees who resigned their positions may be reinstated to their former positions, or to positions to which they were eligible for transfer or reassignment without further examination. Employees separated from their positions may be reinstated within one year of the date of their separation. Employees separated from their positions who have also been separated from state service for more than one year may be reinstated upon approval by the state Civil Service Commission.

Additional Comments NY HELPS Program:
This title is part of the New York Hiring for Emergency Limited Placement Statewide
Program (NY HELPS).

For the duration of the NY HELPS Program, this title may be filled via a non-competitive appointment, which means no examination is required but all candidates must meet the minimum qualifications of the title for which they apply.

At a future date (within one year of permanent appointment), it is expected employees hired under NY HELPS will have their non-competitive employment status converted to competitive status, without having to compete in an examination. Employees will then be afforded with all the same rights and privileges of competitive class employees of New York State. While serving permanently in a NY HELPS title, employees may take part in any promotion examination for which they are qualified.
