Job Specifics

Duties Description • Install and maintain electrical systems including but not limited to, UPS, IPS, inverters, and emergency lighting.
• Performs required monthly and annual inspection and testing on emergency generators, UPS, IPS and emergency lighting systems. Including but not limited to:
o 15 emergency generators
o 22 UPS/IPS backup power systems
• Inspects and maintains emergency inverters, this includes the ordering and replacement of batteries, diagnosing system faults and working with vendors to correct deficiencies.
• Obtain 3rd party quotes when needed, to repair and maintain emergency power system equipment.
• Provide escorts to 3rd party contractors performing required annual inspection and testing of the campuses’ twenty-two emergency generators.
• Working in a team, perform annual 90-minute testing of emergency lighting systems.
• Install and maintain electrical systems using blueprints, installation manuals, and the National Electric Code.
• Perform 110v electrical work including tracing and labeling emergency light circuit.
• Perform required inspection and testing on ITS phone battery backup systems.
• Respond to repair requests in a timely, efficient, and customer-friendly manner.
• Complete projects on schedule.
• Repair, maintain and install lighting fixtures, bulbs, ballasts, outlets, switches, and other electrical equipment.
• Perform abatement work of Office of Fire Prevention and Control violations.
• Perform maintenance of the Fire Safety Shop electric cart battery systems.
• Assembles and installs electrical boxes, wire, conduit, cable and wiremold.
• Assembles materials, tools and equipment required to complete the work according to plan.
• Use of hand tools, power tools, ladders, scaffolds, man lifts and cutting tool as well as electrical testing equipment.
• Maintains all inspection and testing records per University and National standards.
• Assist Facilities Electrical Shop when assigned to meet critical operations and to support on Campus electrical emergencies as needed.

Minimum Qualifications Four years of full-time experience in the electrical trade under a skilled tradesperson which would provide training equivalent to that given in a training, apprenticeship, or equivalent program, or an equivalent combination of experience and training gained by completion of technical courses in the electrical trade at a school, institute, or branch of the Armed Services; OR successful completion of the two-year Trades Specialist (Electrician) traineeship or a two-year electrician training, apprenticeship, or equivalent program* such as the New York State Civil Service Employees Association-Partnership Applied Skilled Trades Traineeship and Certificate Program. * Successful completion of the traineeship and the training program includes a total of 288 hours of trade-specific classroom instruction, 45 hours of technical math course work, 45 hours of technical communications course work, and 15 hours of blueprint/schematic reading course work. Course work must be completed with an average of "C" or better. Additionally, successful completion of the traineeship also includes 4,000 hours of on-the-job training. This position may be filled from a mandatory reemployment list if one is in effect at the time of appointment. Candidates may be expected to be qualified to use negative pressure respirators. Valid New York State driver's license required.
