Job Specifics
Minimum Qualifications MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Candidates must have one year of permanent competitive service as an Information Technology Specialist 3 (Database) OR have one year of service in a title SG-21 or above eligible for transfer under section 52.6 or 70.1 of the Civil Service Law OR be reachable on the Information Technology Specialist 3 (Database) eligible list.
Duties Description The New York State Education Department’s (NYSED) Office of Information Technology Services (ITS) is seeking applicants for the position of Information Technology Specialist 3 (Database). ITS is the service unit responsible for fulfilling the information processing needs of offices throughout NYSED. This position will perform Oracle database management and java application server technical support activities. The activities are performed in the IBM AIX (UNIX), SUN Microsystems Solaris (UNIX), Windows Server and Windows desktop operating environments. Duties may include, but not be limited to, the following:
• Provide support for enterprise Oracle databases;
• Provide support of Oracle software tools associated with application and data warehouse development;
• Provide support of Oracle Application Server environment (including Oracle Internet Directory, Oracle Portal, and Java/web server software infrastructure);
• Participate in Oracle database and application server related trouble-shooting and problem resolution;
• Design database work associated with new application development;
• Create database structures associated with application development and enhancement;
• Participate in JAD sessions associated with new application development;
• Provide database and application server support for application developers;
• Recover Oracle database and software environments as required; and
• Implement the automation of processes using Unix/Windows scripting.
Additional Comments CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT: This will be a permanent contingent appointment. Filling of this position is contingent upon Division of Budget approval.
*Salary leads to $85,635 through annual performance advances.
