Duties Description POSITION DESCRIPTION:
The Payroll Office within Region 2 serves both the Broome and Central NY DDSOs consisting of approximately 4,500 employees. Payroll prepares the regular, lag, and special payrolls. They also make related payroll determinations concerning salaries, miscellaneous payments, deductions, taxes, and other similar matters. Under the supervision of a higher-level Payroll Examiner, position performs the full range of payroll processing tasks and activities as workload requires; may supervise subordinate clerical staff.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Review and interpret control agency bulletins; develop internal procedures to implement control agency directives; and advise staff and agency employees verbally and in writing.
Receive and respond to written and oral communications from the Office of the State Comptroller, the Division of the Budget, the Governor's Office of Employee Relations, and the Department of Civil Service about payroll and time and attendance issues.
Develop, implement, and monitor internal control procedures to ensure the timely submission of accurate payroll documents.
Direct Data Entry into the PayServ system
Calculate and/or verify salary calculations and related factors for agency employees.
Provide customer service to agency employees and department managers on payroll and/or personnel related issues.

Minimum Qualifications Competitive: Candidates must be reachable for appointment on Current Civil Service Eligible List for this title.
Transfer Qualifications:
Candidates must have one year of permanent competitive, non-competitive or 55-b/c status in the posted title and be eligible for lateral transfer; OR be eligible to transfer via Section 70.1, 70.4, or 52.6 of Civil Service Law. The transfer cannot be a second consecutive transfer resulting in an advancement of more than two salary grades.

• Paid Parental Leave:
Paid Parental Leave allows eligible employees to take up to 12 weeks of paid leave at full pay for each qualifying event. A qualifying event is defined as the birth of a child or placement of a child for adoption or foster care.
