Job Specifics
Duties Description The Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants and Children (WIC) is a federally funded nutrition program that provides nutritious foods, healthcare referrals and breastfeeding support to eligible pregnant women, breastfeeding women, and children under the age of five. The NYS WIC Program is administered by the NYS Department of Health Division of Nutrition. This position will oversee the team responsible for ensuring local agency compliance with state and federal rules and regulations. The team also works closely with the four WIC regional offices to ensure consistent contract management practices for all WIC local agencies.
The Public Health Nutritionist 2 (PHN 2) directs and oversees local agency management evaluation activities, including analyzing data to develop and monitor NYS WIC program goals and using specific metrics to report the status of goals to the Department of Health management and the United States Department of Agriculture. The PHN 2 will also serve as a liaison with the leadership of the WIC regional offices to ensure standard contract management practices are in place. The position will also oversee the WIC local agency memoranda of understanding process.
The PHN 2 develops and implements policies and procedures, assuring compliance with all applicable laws and regulations, and communication with the appropriate stakeholders; analyzes legislation, statutes, and regulations that affect programs. The PHN 2 provides supervision, guidance, and oversight to subordinate staff including personnel actions related to recruitment, interviewing, hiring, staff development, and performance evaluations for approximately 4 staff.
Minimum Qualifications Reassignment: Current New York State Department of Health employee with permanent or contingent-permanent status as a Public Health Nutritionist 2, Grade 24.

Provisional/NCP: Current New York State Department of Health employee with one year of permanent or contingent-permanent, competitive or 55-b/c service in a qualifying title as listed on the last Civil Service promotion examination announcement: https://www.cs.ny.gov/announarchive/announcements/38-471010.cfm?live=false
You must be currently registered with the Commission on Dietetic Registration, the credentialing agency for the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics and is necessary for continued employment as a Public Health Nutritionist 2.

Preferred Qualifications: The preferred candidate would have excellent communication, analytical and organizational skills with experience working in a large public nutrition program in a management capacity. The candidate will also have knowledge of WIC Program regulations.

This position may require travel throughout New York State including overnights to areas not served by public transportation.
