Job Specifics
Duties Description The New York State Education Department’s (NYSED) Office of Performance Improvement and Management Services is seeking candidates for a Janitor position in the Office of Facilities and Business Services. The incumbent of this position will perform a variety of cleaning and unskilled maintenance tasks for one or more State buildings, adjacent grounds, and walkways. Duties of this position include, but are not limited to, the following:
• Serve as a working supervisor and supervise the day shift lower-level cleaning personnel. Assigns tasks; provides instructions and assistance; demonstrates proper cleaning procedures; reviews work in progress and upon completion; monitors time and attendance; and evaluates performance;
• Polishes wood and metal surfaces, fixtures, furniture, and equipment;
• Checks and fills supplies and equipment functionality. Notifies supervisor of low supply levels, equipment malfunction, and building maintenance issues noted during cleaning;
• Perform cleaning tasks like sweeping, mopping, and scrubbing floors;
• Assist with ordering and restocking of cleaning supplies and equipment; and
• Perform additional duties as required
Minimum Qualifications MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Additional Comments CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
This will be a permanent, non-competitive appointment. Promotions and transfers may change appointees’ negotiating unit. Candidates should be aware that changes in negotiating units may affect their salary, insurance, and other benefits. The work schedule for this position is Monday – Friday 6am-2pm.
This position leads to a maximum salary of $47,237 based on annual performance advances. For new State employees appointed to graded positions, the annual salary is the hiring rate (beginning of the Salary Range) of the position. Promotion salaries are calculated by the NYS Office of the State Comptroller in accordance with NYS Civil Service Law, OSC Payroll rules and regulations and negotiated union contracts
