Job Specifics

Duties Description Perform or assist in performing technical and agency program support of IT activities related to network and system design, configuration, maintenance, and security; customer support; business/systems analysis and design which may include web site development and administration of a transactional, dynamic or interactive web site; and the design and development of database systems.
This position resides on the Asset Management Team in the Bureau of Information Technology Business Management within the Chief Information Office.

• Wipe or remove computer hard drives to eliminate sensitive data.
• Update database and records as needed to maintain inventory accuracy.
• Assist with the assignment of PC equipment and provide it to technical staff when requested.
• Assist with the purchasing of new IT hardware while adhering to New York State Finance Law and following procurement.

Non-Competitive Qualifications for appointment under the NYHELPS Program:

For an appointment to an Information Technology Specialist 2, you must have:

A bachelor's or higher-level degree in any field and one year of experience in information technology.

OR a bachelor's or higher-level degree, including or supplemented by 15 credit hours in computer science courses.

OR 60 semester credit hours including or supplemented by 15 semester credit hours in computer science and one year of professional experience in information technology.

OR a total of two years of experience in information technology.

Competitive Minimum Qualifications:
You must be currently reachable on the appropriate eligible list for this title, eligible under the 55 b/c program, or eligible to transfer to this title under Section 52.6, 70.1, or 70.4 of the Civil Service Law.

Transfer:
For 52.6, 70.1, or 70.4 transfer to an Information Technology Specialist 2, salary grade (SG)-18, you must have one year of permanent competitive, or 55-b/55-c service in an approved title for transfer allocated to an SG-16 or above.

Appointments via transfer must not result in a second, consecutive transfer with an advancement of more than two S-grades or one M-grade.

Additional Comments Preferred Qualifications/Knowledge, skills, and abilities:

• Demonstrated experience in Asset Management.

• Demonstrated experience with Technical Writing.

• Demonstrated experience with Microsoft Outlook.

• Demonstrated experience with databases.

• Demonstrated experience with Microsoft Excel spreadsheets.

• Demonstrated experience using Microsoft 365 email, messaging, and schedule management.

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

• Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively as part of a team.

• Required to lift IT assets up to 40 pounds.
