Job Specifics

Duties Description Under the direction of the Manager Artificial Intelligence Solutions (Info Tech Architect 2), SG-27 the Information Technology Architect 1, SG-25, will serve as a Data Scientist within the Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Data Science Unit. This position will support applied artificial intelligence, machine learning, and advanced analytics initiatives. This role will primarily focus on machine learning and model implementation and analytics and insight generation. Duties:
• Design/adopt and implement machine learning models to support legal operations, case analysis, investigative prioritization, and public services.
• Apply statistical methods, classification techniques, and potential natural language processing (NLP) to structured and unstructured datasets.
• Develop and maintain code, modeling pipelines, and evaluation metrics for production-quality solutions.
• Contribute to the selection and evaluation of third-party and open-source models, including LLMs, for potential adoption by OAG.
• Analyze case, legal, and administrative datasets to uncover trends, anomalies, and opportunities for efficiency.
• Build dashboards, reports, and visualization tools that communicate results to technical and nontechnical audiences.
• Translate complex data findings into meaningful recommendations that support OAG programs and initiatives.
• Collaborate with team members across data science, engineering, architecture, and legal subject matter experts to co-develop or adopt models and data tools.
• Participate in user interviews, data discovery, and needs assessments to inform project scope and model design.
• Assist in integrating models into business processes and digital tools in partnership with IT and software development teams.
• Verify all models align with OAG’s data governance, AI ethics, and privacy policies.
• Maintain model documentation, including training data sources, performance metrics, and limitations.
• Assist in identifying potential risks and recommending mitigation strategies related to bias, fairness, and transparency.
• Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications A bachelor’s degree computer science, software engineering, IT or a related field and four (4) years of broad information technology (IT) experience, demonstrating a comprehensive understanding of software engineering, data engineering, database administration or other data-related specialty and its application within large-scale organizations.
• Three (3) years of experience building machine learning models and using programming languages (e.g. R/Python) for statistical analysis, preferably in a legal, public-sector, research, or policy-driven environment.

Substitutions:
Four years of specialized experience or an associate's degree and two years of specialized experience may substitute for the bachelor’s degree.
Juris doctorate or master's degree may substitute for one year of specialized experience.
A Ph.D. may substitute for two years of specialized experience.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
• Knowledge of LLMs, transformers, or other generative AI architectures.
• Experience working with government, legal, or regulatory data sets.
• Familiarity with vector databases, embeddings, or advanced search techniques.
• Experience with Microsoft Azure, AWS, or other cloud-based AI platforms.
• Understanding of data governance frameworks and privacy standards (e.g., HIPAA, FOIL, FERPA).
• Experience translating data into actionable insights
