Job Specifics
Duties Description The Office Assistant 3 will perform various tasks in the following categories: communication, coordination, organization, and records maintenance. The responsibilities include maintaining all Workers Compensation case files, FMLA records, and medical absences, tracking all leaves of absence, and processing new employees. They will prepare time and attendance audits, process personnel transactions/records, update and maintain all Personnel databases and assist with Employee Relations activities.
Minimum Qualifications Reassignment: Current New York State Department of Health Veterans Home at Montrose employee with permanent or contingent permanent status as a Office Assistant 3.
Transfers: Current New York State employee with one or more years of permanent, contingent-permanent, or 55 b/c service
in a position allocated to Grade 12 or above, and that is eligible for transfer under Section 70.1 of the Civil Service Law to Office.
Promotion Provisional Appointment: In the absence of an eligible list with three or more candidates willing to accept a position, a temporary provisional appointment may be considered. For provisional appointment, candidates must meet one of the following minimum qualifications: Be a current New York State employee with one year of permanent competitive or 55-b/55-c service as an Office Assistant 2; or one year of permanent service in a clerical, keyboarding, or paraprofessional title allocated to Grade 7 or higher. Preferred Qualifications: The preferred candidate should have experience working in the Human Resources Department and familiarity with Workers’ Compensation and FMLA. The candidate should possess data entry skills using various software applications, particularly Word and Excel. The candidate should also possess a practical understanding of office management methods and practices. They should also posse the ability to effectively communicate with staff members.

For new State employees appointed to graded positions, the annual salary is the hiring rate (beginning of the Salary Range) of the position. Promotion salaries are calculated by the NYS Office of the State Comptroller in accordance with NYS Civil Service Law, OSC Payroll rules and regulations and negotiated union contracts.
The posted salary range ($60,506-$72,630) includes a downstate adjustment of $4,000.
