Job Specifics
Duties Description The incumbent of this position will report to the Fire Training & Education Branch Unit within the Office of Fire Prevention and Control.
Duties include but are not limited to the following:
• Under the general direction of the Fire Protection Specialist 3, SG-27, the incumbent supervises the daily activities of assigned staff in the Fire Training and Education Branch (FTEB).
• Reviews and audits teaching assignments of Fire Protection Specialists 1 and licensed State Fire Instructors.
• Recommends new training programs and assists Fire Protection Specialists 1 and State Fire Instructors in developing training programs.
• Reviews curricula, lesson plans, instructional materials, and public education materials for content, relevance, and accuracy.
• Audits teaching assignments of Fire Protection Specialists 1 and State Fire Instructors and takes any corrective actions.
• Reviews participant evaluations and consults with instructor to identify areas for course improvements.
• Critiques instructors on presentation methods, technique, and technical content and provides guidance and suggestions for improvement.
• Assists local fire departments to identify outside experts in highly technical training programs and arranges for training materials, accommodations, and expenses.
• Supervises the periodic review of local fire department training programs and courses and recommends approval or revocation of the certification of these programs.
• Assist with monthly and quarterly reports as needed.
• Perform supervisory functions to ensure proper staffing levels and finances are available to support programs.
• Assigns work, evaluates work performance, counsels’ staff, approves time off, trains staff, and participates in the interview and selection process.
• May represent the State Fire Administrator at meetings with local officials and at national, state, and local seminars, conferences, and workshops.
• Performs other duties and special projects as required.
• Significant travel, approximately 60%, often overnight in an assigned geographic location is required.
Minimum Qualifications REASSIGNMENT/TRANSFER
Current New York State Division of Homeland Security and emergency Services employee with one year or more of permanent, contingent-permanent or 55b/c service as an Fire Protection Specialist 2 and are interested in reassignment.

This position is eligible for location pay of $4,000.
