Job Specifics
Duties Description Perform journey-level work in one trade, and skilled, semiskilled level work in a combination of other trades in the repair and maintenance of facilities vehicles and equipment. Supervise others in maintenance, repair, installation, and construction activities.
Minimum Qualifications MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Four years of full-time experience in a trade under a skilled tradesperson which would provide training equivalent to that given in a training, apprenticeship, or equivalent program; or an equivalent combination of experience and training gained by completion of technical courses in skilled trades at a school, institute, or branch of the Armed Services. This position may be filled from a mandatory reemployment list if one is in effect at the time of appointment. Candidates may be expected to be qualified to use negative pressure respirators. Valid New York State driver's license required.
Appointment will be contingent upon successful completion of pre-employment testing for controlled substance use as mandated by the Federal Highway Administration Omnibus Transportation Act of 1991 (OTETA). Employment cannot commence until notification for successful completion of this pre-employment testing is received. Please note that in addition to the initial testing required by OTETA, the Act further requires that the University conduct pre-assignment (promotion), reasonable suspicion, post-accident, random, follow-up and return to duty drug and alcohol testing throughout the period of employment.
OPERATING NEEDS:
Ability to perform journey-level work in one trade, and skilled and semiskilled level work in a combination of other trades in the diagnosis and repair of mechanical systems large and small, internal combustion engines, hydraulic systems, components of larger comprehensive systems including emergency equipment for the protection of vital building infrastructure (generators, fire protective components and overhead doors). Ability to estimate labor and materials costs, order replacement parts to meet project needs information into the AiM work order system. Ability to perform diagnostic scans of onboard computers for campus equipment; ability to use tools associated with diagnostic, testing and repairs of utility vehicles equipped with computer circuit boards, fuel injectors and advanced hydraulics; ability to troubleshoot electrical systems, fuel injection systems, and hydraulics; ability to perform mechanical, electrical and hydraulic repairs for a variety of equipment including utility vehicles, loaders, trucks, snowplows, salters, electric cars, shop equipment, generators, pumps, and other small engine items. Repair blown hydraulic hoses, defective pumps, valves, leaking rams and hydraulic tanks. Ability to use pressure gauges both mechanical and electronic to diagnose solenoids and line pressure. Ability to cut, drill, weld and repair cracked, and broken metal parts as needed; fabricate and repair floorboards, weld broken metal on plows, frames or other parts of utility vehicles, body panels for snowplows, trucks, and campus projects. Welding with MiG welders, stick welders with the use of oxygen and acetylene torches for cutting or bracing. Ability and willingness to attend training on new equipment and, work overtime if needed and to be on an emergency call-in list for afterhours emergencies. Valid NYS CDL Driver's license required. NYS inspectors license.
