Job Specifics

Duties Description Under the supervision of the Trades Generalist, SG-12, the Maintenance Assistant, SG-9 performs a variety of semi-skilled maintenance, repair, and installation activities. Duties include, but are not limited to:

• Assist with installation, repair, and maintenance of plumbing fixtures including sinks, toilets, showers, and drinking fountains.
• Perform routine inspection and basic troubleshooting of plumbing systems to identify leaks, clogs, and malfunctions.
• Clear drains and sewer lines using hand tools and basic mechanical equipment.
• Assist with repair and replacement of valves, faucets, pipes, fittings, and fixtures.
• Support winterization and seasonal start-up of plumbing systems, including draining, flushing, and reactivation.
• Assist with maintenance of water supply and wastewater systems serving restrooms, campsites, and park facilities.
• Operate hand tools, power tools, and light maintenance equipment safely and effectively.
• Transport tools, materials, and supplies to job sites.
• Perform related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications Two years of full-time experience in maintenance or mechanical work under the supervision of a skilled tradesperson; OR completion of an appropriate two year technical school course at a school, institute, or branch of the Armed Services, such as the New York State Civil Service Employees Association-Partnership (NYS CSEA-P) Applied Skilled Trades Certificate Program*; or an equivalent combination of experience and training gained by completion of appropriate technical courses at a school, institute, or branch of the Armed Services.

*Successful completion of the NYS CSEA-P Applied Skilled Trades Certificate Program includes a total of 288 hours of trade-specific classroom instruction, 45 hours of technical math course work, 45 hours of technical communications course work, and 15 hours of blueprint/schematic reading course work. It does not include 4,000 hours of on-the-job training, as required for the NYS CSEA-P Applied Skilled Trades Traineeship.

Additional Comments Operating Needs:
• Must be available to work a variable schedule that includes weekends, holidays and/or evening shifts.
• Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license that allows the candidate to operate a vehicle in New York State as a term and condition of employment.
• Must possess a valid Class B*** Commercial Driver’s License with tanker endorsement that allows the candidate to legally operate commercial vehicles in New York State or obtain one within the probationary period and maintain it as a term and condition of employment.

***Under the provision of the Omnibus Transportation Employee Testing Act (1991), this position has been designated Safety Sensitive. The incumbent is required to participate in pre-employment, random and post-accident drug and alcohol testing.
