Job Specifics

Duties Description Reporting to the Director of Community Grants Reinvestment Fund, Senior Advisor on Community Relations for Community Grants Reinvestment Fund (CGRF) will serve as the second line of leadership for the CGRF. This role will be the primary lead on community outreach, participation, and partnership, coordinating with OCM’s Public Affairs team. The incumbent will help ensure the integrity and mission alignment of CGRF initiatives by fostering relationships and creating meaningful engagement between the OCM and communities that have been disproportionately impacted by previous state and federal drug laws. The incumbent will share information on CGRF priorities, flag community concerns, and provide strategic advice to CGRF leadership to help shape participatory engagement mechanisms that inform program design, implementation, and ongoing refinement. The Senior Advisor on Community Relations will also contribute thought leadership to inform and oversee CGRF’s strategic framework, program design, implementation, grant-making practices, and organizational partnerships. The incumbent will contribute to a culture that elevates the voice and needs of directly impacted drug war survivors.

Duties include, but are not limited to:
• Design and implement participatory mechanisms, such as town halls, workshops, and advisory committees, to enable community members to actively contribute to the CGRF’s development and decision-making processes. Share community feedback and public comment with the CGRF, OCM leadership, Cannabis Advisory Board (CAB), and other relevant units.
• Collaborate across OCM teams to develop the CGRF’s engagement and public participation strategies for communities disproportionately impacted by prior state and federal drug laws.
• Identify barriers for drug war-affected communities to access CGRF opportunities and opportunities to increase impact; propose and implement solutions.
• Provide regular briefings to Director, CGRF colleagues, OCM leadership, CAB, and External Affairs team members regarding community specific strategies and updates from across New York State.
• Identify specific challenges in building and maintaining strong community relationships, including socioeconomic barriers, historical mistrust, and communication gaps.
• Ensure transparency and accountability in all community relations initiatives by maintaining open channels of communication.
• Support ongoing and future Request for Applications (RFA), strategic framework development, community-centered objectives, grantmaking implementation and projects as they are developed.
• Contribute to the strategic direction of projects for CGRF and OCM Social Equity Plan by developing short- and long-term project goals, developing timelines for implementation, and overseeing execution.
• Provide full range of supervisory functions for subordinate staff and project teams.

Minimum Qualifications A bachelor’s degree and four years of relevant experience.*

*Substitutions: four years of specialized experience or associate’s degree and two years of specialized experience may substitute for bachelor’s degree; J.D. or master’s degree may substitute for one year of specialized experience; Ph.D. may substitute for two years of specialized experience.

Additional Comments NOTE:
• Travel may be required (approximately 10%), including during evening and weekends, depending on mission and assignment.
• Possession and maintenance of a valid Driver’s License issued by the NYS Department of Motor Vehicle is required, or otherwise demonstrate the capacity to meet the transportation needs of the job.
