Job Specifics
Duties Description The incumbent will perform and assist with housekeeping duties under the overall supervision of the Park Manager 1, SG-18, in charge of the Niagara Falls State Park Welcome Center. Duties include, but are not limited to, the following:
• Ensure all park restrooms and buildings are clean and safe for use by the public.
• Perform and assist with simple maintenance activities such as trash removal, unclogging toilets and sinks, interior and exterior painting, operation and basic maintenance of vehicles and self-propelled and power-driven equipment.
• Contribute to the upkeep and repair of park furnishings.
• Assist in ordering supplies for the housekeeping department.
• Manage inventory control of designated items.
• Ensure a continuous supply of cleaning materials and paper products for all park facilities.
• Assist as directed during emergencies; perform traffic and crowd control.
• In winter months, perform and assist in snow and ice removal, involving both manual shoveling and operating snow removal equipment/vehicles.
• Assist seasonal and permanent employees in accomplishing necessary tasks within the park such as paper picking, sweeping and blowing plazas, walkways, and grounds, as well as collecting trash and debris.
• The incumbent will also perform and assist with cleaning and organization of areas located in Niagara Falls State Park Community Education Center.
Minimum Qualifications One year of experience in the operation and/or maintenance of a park, historic site, golf course, or recreational facility;
OR - One year of experience in any of the following fields:
• Law enforcement or security
• Firefighting
• Emergency Medical Services
• Environmental education or stewardship
• Natural resources management (e.g., forest management, wildlife management/preservation)
• Historic preservation or interpretation
• Landscaping or grounds maintenance
OR - One year of military service in any branch of the United States Armed Forces;
OR - Thirty (30) semester credit hours of college-level coursework from an accredited college or university;
OR - Completion of a two-year technical/trades school program;
OR - Two years of experience as a trade assistant working under the direct supervision of a skilled tradesperson.
Additional Comments OPERATING NEEDS:
• Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license that allows the candidate to legally operate a motor vehicle in New York State as a term and condition of employment.
• Must be able to perform medium physical labor.
• Must be physically able to regularly lift up to 25 pounds.
• Must possess or obtain AED, CPR, and First Aid Certification during the probationary period and maintain it as a term and condition of employment. This training will be provided by the Office of Parks, Recreation, and Historic Preservation.
