Job Specifics

Duties Description The Supervising Laboratory Assessor (Clinical) (SLA-C) primary responsibilities will include training new hires, supervising field staff consisting of Laboratory Assessors (LA); coordinating tissue bank inspections and investigations in timely and efficient manner, reporting and follow-up; monitoring of staff productivity to ensure goals are met; verifying entries in the TRP database for accuracy and timeliness; serving as a secondary reviewer for applications; and serving as a subject matter expert for LA-Cs and regulated entities. The SLA-C will be responsible for performing inspections of tissue banks that pose complex operational challenges and for investigating complaints related to tissue banks, responding to FOIL requests, conducting primary reviews of applications from banks with complicated structures or atypical activities, and assisting in the development of regulatory standards, internal policies and standard operating procedures.

Minimum Qualifications Permanent Transfer: Current New York State (NYS) employee with permanent or contingent-permanent, competitive status as a Supervising Laboratory Assessor (Clinical), G-25 and eligible to transfer under Section 70.1 of the Civil Service Law.

Provisional/non-competitive promotion: Current NYS Department of Health employee with one year or more of permanent or contingent-permanent, competitive service as Laboratory Assessor (Clinical), G-22.

Preferred Qualifications: The preferred candidate would have hands on experience conducting surveys/audits/inspections/investigations of tissue banks. Experience communicating regulatory expectations and interpretations to regulated entities, internal and external stakeholders. Experience developing standard operating procedures, internal policies and regulatory standards. Prior supervisory experience.

If certified by Civil Service, mandatory reemployment list candidates must be considered first for appointment to this title. Candidates applying under this qualification must not have either failed to pass, or failed (if qualified) to apply for, the last examination for this title, #38-524, held on March 5, 2022.

For Provisional candidates: Provisional candidates must apply and take the next Civil Service examination offered for this title and must be reachable on the resulting eligible list to maintain employment.

This position may require travel throughout New York State including overnights to areas not served by public transportation.
