Job Specifics

Duties Description Under the direction of the Regional Maintenance Supervisor, the selected candidate will primarily support the region’s Carpenters by performing semi-skilled and unskilled labor. Job duties include, but are not limited to:

• Perform journey-level carpentry work and frequently supervise others in the construction and repair of structures and other wood items.
• Carpentry including roofing, millwork, furniture construction, furniture finishing and repair, and cabinet work.
• May install and adjust door and building hardware including locks, door closures, doorknobs, hinges, door checks, sash fittings and other lock work activities as required.
• Safely operate shop equipment, use hand tools, paint, operate state vehicles, load and unload equipment and supplies, site and tool clean up, and other job-related tasks as assigned by the Regional Carpenters.


Minimum Qualifications There are no minimum qualifications for this title per Civil Service.

Additional Comments OPERATIONAL NEEDS:
• Must be capable of acting independently with a minimum of direct supervision.
• Ability to work outdoors year-round.
• Ability to communicate in writing and to read and comprehend written material.
• Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license that allows the candidate to legally operate a motor vehicle in New York State as a term and condition of employment.
• Must be able to drive up to two hours one way to job site in a state vehicle.
• Must be able to work from heights on ladders, scaffolding, and arial lifts.
• Must be capable of lifting 50 pounds continuously and 100 pounds occasionally in the performance of duties.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
• One year employment experience in general building construction or maintenance, 6 months of which should be in carpentry OR completion of an appropriate two-year technical/trades school course.
• Must be able to communicate with other staff and park patrons in a professional and knowledgeable manner.
• Experience in the maintenance of a park or similar facility is desirable.

ADDITIONAL COMMENTS:
Work will take place at various state parks and historic sites throughout the Saratoga/Capital Park Region. The incumbent may be assigned to work independently on a project or under other trades persons based on the needs of the Region.
