Job Specifics
Minimum Qualifications To be considered for permanent appointment, candidates must be reachable on the current Civil Service eligible list or be eligible for reassignment or transfer in accordance with Civil Service Law. If a viable eligible list does not exist, a provisional appointment may be made in accordance with Civil Service Law.
If you are appointed provisionally, you will have to take and pass the next Civil Service examination for this title when it is administered. Employees appointed provisionally must be reachable on the resulting eligibility list for that title or their employment in the position will end.
The minimum requirements for taking the examination are:
•one year of experience assisting in engineering or engineering technology, engineering management technology, architecture or architectural technology, environmental technology, electronics or electronics technology, landscape design, materials laboratory technology, drafting or surveying;
•AND graduation from a high school or possession of a diploma issued by a recognized educational authority.
Allowable substitutions are:
•18 semester credit hours of college course work* in mathematics, physical science, engineering or engineering technology, architecture or architectural technology, construction technology, environmental technology, landscape architecture/design, drafting, forestry, surveying, aeronautics, or electronics;
•OR graduation from a high school technical education program (recognized by the New York State Education Department as meeting acceptable program practices and standards) in CAD/CAM, construction technology, drafting, engineering, engineering graphics, or electronics.
*If you are using the coursework substitution to meet the minimum qualifications, you must provide the name and location of the college AND a list of the courses you have successfully completed with the corresponding number of credit hours.
Duties Description Under the direction of a higher-level supervisor, the candidate will perform technical work.
Duties may include, but are not limited to:
•Taking measurements,
•Checking computations,
•Collecting and compiling data,
•Making simple calculations,
•Performing inspections of small and relatively simple construction projects or portions of projects,
•Preparing and revising maps and drawings,
•Preparing portions of written reports,
•Occasionally traveling statewide to collect and analyze field data, and
•Performing other duties, as required.
Responsibilities may also include participating within the Incident Command System to support the Department’s response to regional and statewide emergency situations.
