Job Specifics
Duties Description As Conservation Operations Supervisor 3, you would oversee multiple working circles and direct projects supporting various department programs. Your duties include managing the operation, maintenance, rehabilitation, improvement, and construction of department infrastructure and facilities, such as buildings and grounds, trail and road systems, recreational areas, environmental education centers, campgrounds, fish hatcheries, water access sites, state forests, wildlife management areas, automotive maintenance centers, and field headquarters. Additionally, you would supervise building management services, coordinate flood emergency operations, monitor purchases and expenditures, prepare, coordinate, and oversee various contracts, develop and implement annual work plans, manage compliance with department protocols, policies, building codes, and health and safety regulations, evaluate subordinate staff performance, and assist lower-level supervisors with supervisory responsibilities. Assumes all the duties and responsibilities of a Conservation Operations Supervisor 4 in their absence.
Minimum Qualifications Reassignment - Currently in the title and an employee of DEC
or
Reinstatement Eligible - Previously held the title on a permanent or competitive basis or held a title as indicated under the transfer eligible section on a permanent competitive basis.
or
Transfer Eligible - One year of permanent competitive service at Salary Grade 19 or higher and:
Eligible for transfer under Section 70.4: Must meet the open competitive minimum qualifications below:
Either 1) Four years of experience in building maintenance, mechanical maintenance, or construction; two years of which must have been in budgeting, supervising, planning, assigning work, evaluating employees, and contract preparation and oversight;
Or
2) three years of experience in building maintenance, mechanical maintenance, or construction; two years of which must have been in budgeting, supervising, planning, assigning work, evaluating employees, and contract preparation and oversight, AND an associate’s or higher level degree in civil engineering technology, construction technology, construction engineering technology, electrical technology, electrical engineering technology, engineering technology, industrial technology, industrial engineering technology, mechanical engineering technology, or mechanical technology.
Additional Comments Must have a valid driver’s license or demonstrate the ability to meet the transportation needs of the position.
Use of personal protection equipment, including a respirator, will be required.
Must be able to negotiate difficult terrain.
Must be able to work in remote areas.
Must be able to work in adverse weather conditions.
Travel may be required.
Overtime may be required.
Overnight travel may be required.
Weekends and holidays may be required.
Must be available for emergency response.
Must be available to respond to after-hours emergencies.
Must be able to lift and move objects up to 50 pounds.
Telecommuting may be available, will be discussed at interview.
