Job Specifics
Minimum Qualifications High School Diploma or equivalent and three (3) years of experience supervising individuals with developmental disabilities of all ages enrolled in vocational/employment oriented programs. This experience should include the following functions: recruitment of participants, assessment and selection of candidates, development of community job opportunities, job training, classroom instruction, job training, job coaching, counseling and community advocacy for employment opportunities for individuals with a developmental disability.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
This position requires a well-organized individual with excellent communication skills and good computer skills. A candidate should be proficient in Word, Excel, and Microsoft Outlook. Extensive local travel is required and some evening, holiday and weekend work may be necessary. Occasional overnight travel, traveling to regional meetings and travel across the state may also be required.
This position also requires extensive interaction with the public, individuals with developmental disabilities, families, voluntary agencies, schools and employers.
Duties Description OPWDD provides support and services to approximately 126,000 individuals with developmental disabilities. OPWDD’s vision is for individuals with developmental disabilities to enjoy meaningful relationships with friends, family and others in their lives; experience personal health and growth; live in the home of their choice, and fully participate in their community. OPWDD currently has an employment service called The Employment Training Program (ETP). The ETP program is designed to provide individuals with developmental disabilities with training and an on-the-job work experience that will lead to competitive employment.
Duties and responsibilities related to this position include, but are not limited to the following:
• Coordinate the annual “Works For Me” event which honors businesses that hire individuals with developmental disabilities;
• Arrange DDRO/Regional Employment Teem meetings and calls to assure consistency in employment initiatives and policy;
• Maintain and update the employment website; manage the employment technical assistance mailbox;
• Assist with providing technical assistance to DDRO/Regional offices and providers;
• Assist in the implementing of the demonstration projects for the Partnership in Employment Systems Change Grant and work closely with other Central Office employment staff to implement the Employment Transformation Plan approved by the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS);
• Provide project management for various employment initiatives;
• Assist in OPWDD efforts to significantly increase the number of people with developmental disabilities who are employed;
• Participate in and assist in implementation of new employment services designed for OPWDD to transition individuals from traditional day services into supported employment.
Additional Comments All OPWDD employees must be eligible and maintain eligibility for full and unconditional participation in the Medicare and Medicaid programs. Continued employment will depend on maintaining eligibility.
