Job Specifics

Duties Description Independently complete a wide range of design and graphics projects; may supervise lower-level administrative support and other positions.
Graphic design, form creation, print production, customer service, and administrative tasks in support of the Reprographics Unit and Agency.

Minimum Qualifications Civil Service exams are not required under the New York Hiring for Emergency Limited Placement Statewide (NY HELPS) Program:
Non-Competitive Qualifications for appointment under the NY HELPS Program:
For appointment to Graphic Designer 1, you must have:

Four years of experience conceptualizing, designing, and creating graphics to communicate messages for educational, commercial, or promotional purposes in print and electronic media.
Education Substitution:
• An associate degree may substitute for two years of experience listed above
• A bachelor’s degree may substitute for four years of experience listed above
• A master’s degree may substitute for five years of experience listed above
• A doctorate may substitute for six years of experience listed above


Competitive Minimum Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree in an art or design field such as art, drawing, painting, illustration, digital design, or interactive media;

OR

• Associate’s degree in the same field
AND
two (2) years of experience.

Additional Comments Preferred Qualifications/Knowledge, skills, and abilities:

• Organized and able to work under pressure and meet strict deadlines.
• Computer/Software Proficiency and keyboarding/typing skills- Adobe Creative Suit, Microsoft Word and mail/merges in Microsoft Excel, and desire to learn new software as needed.
• Experience creating fillable forms in Microsoft Word and/or Adobe Acrobat.
• Experience mounting posters, using laminating equipment a plus.
• Diplomacy and good communication skills.
• Dependable-realize it is a small unit that must always be staffed.
• Ability to lead others within the unit would be preferred but not requirement.

Telecommuting: The Office of the New York State Comptroller (OSC) supports telecommuting where it is reasonable to do so based upon the agency’s mission and operational needs. Generally, employees new to OSC will be restricted from telecommuting for at least 8 calendar weeks. After the initial 8 calendar week restriction, if an employee’s primary residence location, duties, and work performance are aligned with telecommuting and operational needs they may be allowed to do so. Generally, OSC employees may telecommute up to 5 days per pay period but may be approved to telecommute less.
