Job Specifics

Duties Description Are you looking for an opportunity where you can help people create change in their lives? The Secure Treatment and Rehabilitation Centers (STARC) are recruiting Licensed Mental Health counselors, to join their team focused on providing compassionate care and support to individuals in a secure environment.

STARC has full-time positions at their Marcy location; work schedule is Monday – Friday, 8-hour shifts between 6:00 am – 6:00 pm.
STARC, an Office of Mental Health (OMH) secure facility, provides intensive, sex-offense specific treatment to individuals civilly confined under New York State’s Sex Offender Management and Treatment Act (SOMTA).

Mental Health Counselors are part of a multidisciplinary team that provides risk-relevant treatment, targeted skill development, and a range of therapeutic interventions that help high-risk individuals reduce their risk to reoffend, including:

• Reviewing, analyzing, and integrating sex offense–specific assessment information to help develop individualized treatment plans

• Providing sex offense–specific treatment primarily through group therapy, with individual sessions as needed

• Working collaboratively with an interdisciplinary treatment team through meetings and case discussions

• Participating in clinical supervision, staff development, and ongoing training

• Documenting services provided and tracking resident progress in accordance with program requirements

Minimum Qualifications Candidates from outside or within State Service may be considered for hire under the Hiring for Emergency Limited Placement - Statewide (HELPS) program as a Licensed Mental Health Counselor if they have a license and current registration as a Licensed Mental Health Counselor in New York State.
OR
Candidates from outside or within State Service can be considered for a competitive class appointment if they are reachable on the current Licensed Mental Health Counselor eligible list.
OR
Candidates from within State Service may be considered for transfer to a competitive class position if they have one year of permanent competitive or 55-b/55-c service in a title eligible for transfer under Section 70.1 of the Civil Service Law.
