Job Specifics

Duties Description This position plays a critical role in ensuring park facilities, roads, utilities, and grounds are maintained safely and efficiently for the enjoyment of our visitors. Under the direction of the Maintenance Supervisor 2, SG-17, the selected candidate’s duties will include, but not be limited to:
• Operate cranes, excavators, backhoes, loaders, and other heavy equipment in a safe and efficient manner.
• Perform excavation, grading, trenching, material handling, and site preparation work.
• Assist with construction, repair, and maintenance projects throughout park facilities and grounds.
• Conduct routine equipment inspections and perform minor maintenance as needed.
• Follow all safety regulations, operating procedures, and agency policies.
• Work effectively with maintenance staff, contractors, and supervisors.
• Assist with emergency response operations, including storm damage cleanup and other park-related emergencies.


Minimum Qualifications Two years of experience in the operation of power shovels, cranes and/or other heavy equipment, and possession of a valid New York State operator's license appropriate for the type of vehicles operated and possession of a valid operator qualification certificate from a certification service agency approved by OSHA for cranes and shovels.

*If verifiable, we will accept and prorate appropriate part-time and volunteer experience.


Additional Comments OPERATIONAL NEEDS:
• Must possess or obtain a valid Class A** CDL license that allows the candidate to legally operate commercial vehicles in New York State within the probationary period and maintain it as a term and condition of employment. Failure to maintain a valid CDL may result in removal from this position.
• Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license that allows the candidate to legally operate a motor vehicle in New York State as a term and condition of employment.
• Experience in construction, roadway maintenance, utility work, or related fields.
• Familiarity with OSHA and workplace safety standards.
• Must be able to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
• May require overtime, weekend, holiday, and emergency response work as needed.
• Ability to lift, carry, and move equipment and materials associated with park operations.

**Under the provisions of the Omnibus Transportation Employee Testing Act (1991), this position has been designated Safety Sensitive. The incumbent is required to participate in pre-employment, random and post-accident drug and alcohol testing.


LOCATION PAY
The hiring rate will be the sum of the statutory hiring rate for CSEA Grade 12 ($50,425) and the Downstate Adjustment ($4,000). The job rate will be the sum of the statutory job rate ($61,548) and the Downstate Adjustment ($4,000).
