Job Specifics

Duties Description The Research Scientist 2 will conduct specific research projects to support data-driven decision making on current initiatives. This includes absorption analyses, predictive modeling, and forecasting analyses. The Research Scientist 2 will also develop new reports, dashboards, and analyses. The incumbent will be responsible for performing the following functions:
• Responsible for conducting all phases of ongoing surveillance and research projects
• Act as a database manager of various federal and state database systems
• Assist the project team in designing and creating a dashboard
• Develop predictive models for evaluating and forecasting the future of healthcare in New York State

Minimum Qualifications Assistant Research Scientist (Health Informatics), SG14:
Bachelor's degree or higher in public health, health informatics, data analytics, epidemiology, statistics, public administration, government analytics, mathematics, social sciences, engineering or a related field and one year of professional research experience* in an appropriate field.

Research Scientist 1 (Health Informatics), SG18:
Bachelor's degree or higher in public health, health informatics, data analytics, epidemiology, statistics, public administration, government analytics, mathematics, social sciences, engineering or a related field and two years of professional research experience* in an appropriate field.

Research Scientist 2 (Health Informatics), SG22:
Bachelor's degree or higher in public health, health informatics, data analytics, epidemiology, statistics, public administration, government analytics, mathematics, social sciences, engineering or a related field and three years of professional research experience* in an appropriate field.

*Substitution: 30 graduate hours leading to an advanced degree in an appropriate field may be substituted for the required experience.

**Substitutions: master's degree in an appropriate field may substitute for one year of experience, and Ph.D. in an appropriate field may substitute for an additional year of experience.

Preferred Qualifications: A master's degree and post degree professional experience in data visualization, and statistical models and data mining tools, in the context of analysis and visualization of large data sets.

Additional Comments This position may require travel throughout New York State including overnights to areas not served by public transportation.
