Job Specifics

Duties Description The incumbent will serve as Deputy Regional Permit Administrator and provide direct supervision to Division of Environmental Permits staff in the Region 5 - Ray Brook office. Specific duties will include engaging in effective and positive communication with internal and external constituents including local, state and federal elected officials, municipalities, businesses, professional groups, and environmental and community groups; advising the Regional Permit Administrator of all sensitive issues; coordinating and ensuring compliance with the statutory requirements of UPA, SEQRA, Endangered Species Act, State Historic Preservation Act, etc.; taking action as directed by the Regional Permit Administrator on matters including emergency response, major development projects, permitting projects and support of enforcement cases; and supervising Division staff including managing workload and coordinating the training of staff in the performance of their assigned duties.

Minimum Qualifications Reassignment - Currently in the title and an employee of DEC.

Reinstatement Eligible - Previously held the title on a permanent competitive basis or held a title as indicated under the transfer eligible section on a permanent competitive basis.
or

Eligible for Transfer Under Section 70.1 - One year of permanent competitive service as an Environmental Program Specialist 2.

Preferred Qualifications:
Experience managing project reviews and performing technical environmental analysis. Familiarity with the Adirondack Park Agency and the Lake George Park Commission.

Additional Comments Must have a valid driver’s license or demonstrate the ability to meet the transportation needs of the position.
Must be able to negotiate difficult terrain.
Must be able to work in remote areas.
Must be able to work in adverse weather conditions.
Travel may be required.
Overtime may be required.
Overnight travel may be required.
Telecommuting may be available up to 50% of work schedule, will be discussed at interview.
