Job Specifics
Duties Description Under the general direction of the Director of Operations, the Assistant Director of Operations will be the first-line manager of the Commission’s Bureau of Field or Forensic Operations. Duties will include but not be limited to:
• Direct and supervise the activities of multiple Correctional Facility Specialists 3 or Healthcare Surveyors 3 (Nursing), the line supervisors of the Commission’s field and forensic units.
• Set the Bureau of Field or Forensic Operations’ timetables for the completion of work.
• Assign staff to the various units in the respective Bureau.
• Approve, adjust and oversee completion of the respective Bureau’s monthly, quarterly and annual work plan.
• Interpret, apply, and execute agency policy with regard to agency evaluation, field investigation and executive oversight; and reviews, revises and approves all written work product of the respective Bureau.
• Oversee, maintain, and coordinate agency management information systems, the automated assignment tracking and staff performance monitoring system and the Commission’s incident reporting and monitoring system.
• Prepare agency mandated reports, including the Annual Report, as well as statistical reports on the work of the agency and the state of the correctional system.
• Co-plan and co-administer the monthly senior staff (supervisors) meeting along with the other Assistant Director of Operations.
• Oversee and co-facilitate the functions of the Commission’s two advisory boards: the Citizen’s Policy and Complaint Review Council and the Medical Review Board.
• Attend all meetings of the Commission and provide technical assistance to the Commissioners therein.
• Represent the Director of Operations in the Director’s absence
Minimum Qualifications A Bachelor’s degree and five years of progressively responsible experience in the development, interpretation and application of oversight rules and regulations governing multi-institutional federal, state or local correctional systems. Two years of this experience must include the management of organized staff units, including the administration and supervision of staff engaged in the development or evaluation of the management, operations, or safety and security programs of correctional systems. OR
Nine years of progressively responsible experience in the development, interpretation and application of oversight rules and regulations governing multi-institutional federal, state or local correctional systems. Two years of this experience must include the management of staff, including the administration and supervision of staff engaged in the development or evaluation of the management, operations, or safety and security programs of correctional systems.
