Job Specifics

Duties Description The New York State Education Department’s Office of the Professions (OP) is seeking candidates to fill an Education Program Assistant 2 position in the Engineering Board Office. Duties include, but are not limited to, the following:

• Assist with Board and Committee meeting development. Travel to and attend meetings as requested.
• Answer with daily email and phone responses and other public inquiries.
• Communicate with applicants and licensees on licensing and practice related consultation.
• Review, prepare, and process licensure applications.
• Administer licensee Interim Permits.
• Administer admissions to licensure exams.
• Process licensee Limited Permits.
• Review various Engineering Board Office correspondence.
• Maintain various board office databases.
• Assist with continuing education sponsor applications.
• Schedule and monitor staff phone coverage.
• Direct supervision of office staff.
• Develop training manuals.
• Train staff in office processes.
• Complete performance evaluations.

Minimum Qualifications Reassignment: Candidates must have one year of permanent competitive or 55b/c service as an Education Program Assistant 2.

Eligible List Appointment: Candidates must be reachable on the Civil Service eligible list for this title. If you are on the Civil Service eligible list for this title, you may receive a canvass letter. You must complete and return it as instructed on the letter.

Section 70.1 Transfer: Candidates must have one year of permanent competitive or 55b/c service in any of the following titles: Education Credentials Specialist 1. Candidates must also possess a bachelor’s degree to qualify for transfer.

Additional Comments This will be a permanent competitive or temporary provisional appointment. Provisional candidates must take the examination for Education Program Assistant when it is next offered and must be reachable on the resulting eligible list to maintain employment. Promotions and transfers may change appointees’ negotiating unit. Candidates should be aware that changes in negotiating units may affect their salary, insurance, and other benefits. This position allows for the opportunity to telecommute up to 30% each bi-weekly pay period.

This position leads to a maximum salary of $85,138 based on annual performance advances.
