Job Specifics

Duties Description The incumbent of the Assistant Director of Law Enforcement, M-3, will report directly to the Director of Law Enforcement, M-5, and oversee Division Headquarters and Field Operations.

The Assistant Director of Law Enforcement (Colonel) commands Division Headquarters and provides general management, direction and control for Division Headquarters. Division Headquarters consists of Internal Affairs, training, technical and administrative services, communications, emergency services, fleet, Quartermaster and IT support.

The Assistant Director also commands Field Operations. The primary responsibility is to provide general management, direction and control over all District commands. Field Operations consists of all functions that are performed under each District to include uniformed patrol, investigative staff, communications and administrative functions.

The Director of Law Enforcement will designate the Assistant Director of Law Enforcement to serve as acting Director in the Director’s absence.

Minimum Qualifications Candidates must have one year of contingent-permanent or permanent competitive service as a Major, Park Police, M-2, with the New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation.

Non-Competitive Promotion (NCP):
Candidates must be employed by the NYS Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation and have one year of contingent-permanent or permanent competitive service as a Major, Park Police, M-2. If three (3) or fewer qualified NYS Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation employees eligible for promotion respond to this posting as interested, Civil Service may approve the permanent appointment of one of the qualified employees without further examination.

Provisional Appointment
Based on the results of this posting notice, OPRHP may make a provisional appointment to this position. The minimum qualifications for provisional appointment are one year of contingent-permanent or permanent competitive service as a Major, Park Police M-2.

Reinstatement:
Candidates who were previously permanently employed by New York State in this title and within this Agency may be reinstated to this position or to any position to which they were eligible to transfer. Employees separated from their positions may be reinstated within one year of the date of separation. Employees who have been separated from State service for more than one year may be reinstated upon approval of the New York State Civil Service Commission.

Downstate Geographic Pay is $15,000

Candidate must possess and maintain a valid New York State driver’s license that allows the person to legally operate a motor vehicle in New York State as a term and condition of employment.
