Job Specifics

Duties Description Performs journey-level work in the repair and maintenance of facilities and equipment. Supervise/train others in maintenance, repair, installation and construction activities, giving instructions, and observing and inspecting work performed to insure that instructions have been followed and that the quality of the work is satisfactory. Must have ability to plan and lay out construction, repair and maintenance projects and have a working knowledge of applicable standards and plumbing and electrical code regulations. Must perform a variety of skilled and semiskilled maintenance, repair, installation and construction tasks in the mechanical, building, motor equipment and electrical trades. All tasks are to be conducted in a safe manner, with any injuries/illnesses reported immediately to supervisor. On occasion, may be expected to orally communicate with administrators and others in an agency or State facility on the reasons why work is being accomplished in the manner selected. Must be able to work with considerable independence as is typical of a craftsperson.

This position will spend 6mos supervising Camp Colby and 6mos at the Ray Brook Office

-Building and grounds maintenance at both facilities
- Manage vehicle and equipment fleet, including repairs, distribution and purchasing.
-planning, scoping, and facilitating construction projects.
- coordinating public water system testing and repairs.
-coordinating fire inspections and abatements/repairs and general management of both facilities.
- coordinate, spec, and supervise construction projects
-ensure public water supply is safe following DOH regulations
-ensure Camp Colby is ready for summer operation and secured for winter shutdown

Minimum Qualifications Four years of full-time experience in a trade under a skilled tradesperson which would provide training equivalent to that given in a training, apprenticeship, or equivalent program; or an equivalent combination of experience and training gained by completion of technical courses in skilled trades at a school, institute, or branch of the Armed Services. When required to operate motor vehicles, candidates must possess a valid New York State driver's license appropriate for the type of vehicle to be operated.

Additional Comments This is a hourly appointment currently funded through 3/31/2027, with a likelihood of continuing beyond that date. Program needs and funding will determine actual termination date.

Actual work schedule, duties and travel requirements may vary and will be discussed at the interview.

Must have a valid driver’s license or demonstrate the ability to meet the transportation needs of the position.
Transportation needs of this position require use of a state vehicle and adhering to the Department’s Vehicle Policy. You must have and maintain a valid driver’s license for this position.

Must be able to work in adverse weather conditions.
Travel may be required.
Overtime may be required.
Overnight travel may be required.
Weekends and holidays may be required.
Must be available for emergency response.
Must be available to respond to after-hours emergencies.
Must be able to lift and move objects up to 50 pounds.
