Job Specifics

Duties Description Candidate will be required to perform necessary functions for the Saranac Inn Maintenance Center. Such duties will include:

-Hazard tree assessment, safe removal of hazard tree and supervision of assigned staff

-Daily monitoring / record keeping of vehicle use staff hours and job expenses

-Monthly tracking of vehicle and fuel use including proper paperwork

-Communicate with supervisors and staff about issues / concerns and the correctiveness in a timely manner

-Carpentry projects will be assigned

-Ensure that all motorized equipment is in good working condition including inventory

-Respond to after hours emergencies possibly involving out of region travel for multiple days

-Work on various crews with changing assignments daily

-Chainsaw certified with up to date First aid/CPR

-Keep written records of work performed and materials / labor used

-Responsible for public bathroom maintenance including cleaning and pumping septic
-Will be assigned unpleasant tasks with septic and garbage

-Safe and efficient equipment operation will be required

-Will be required to supervise one or more people in completing routine and assigned jobs

-May be assigned to other facilities in the working circle with different shifts

-Must operate vehicles requiring a CDL

- May be required to operate and transport heavy equipment

Minimum Qualifications - Four years of full-time experience in a trade under a skilled journey-level position which would provide training equivalent to that given in an apprenticeship program. Apprentice training in a trade or training gained by the completion of technical courses in a trade at a school or institute may be substituted for the above experience on a year-for-year basis.

- Must obtain a Class B CDL within 12 months of appointment with appropriate endorsements and no air brake restriction.

- Class B CDL at time of hire preferred.

- Certified chainsaw operator.

- CPR, First Aid, and AED certified.

Additional Comments This is a hourly appointment currently funded through 3/31/2027, with a likelihood of continuing beyond that date. Program needs and funding will determine actual termination date.

Actual work schedule, duties and travel requirements may vary and will be discussed at the interview.

Must have a valid driver’s license or demonstrate the ability to meet the transportation needs of the position.
Transportation needs of this position require use of a state vehicle and adhering to the Department’s Vehicle Policy. You must have and maintain a valid driver’s license for this position.
Must be able to negotiate difficult terrain.
Must be able to work in remote areas.
Must be able to work in adverse weather conditions.
Travel may be required.
Overtime may be required.
Overnight travel may be required.
Weekends and holidays may be required.
Must be available for emergency response.
Must be available to respond to after-hours emergencies.

Will be subject to the Federal Omnibus Transportation Employee Testing Act (OTETA) of 1991, which requires employee testing for drug and alcohol abuse.
Must be able to lift and move objects up to 50 pounds.
