Job Specifics

Duties Description The DFP Communications Lieutenant will report directly to the LED Chief and serve as the immediate supervisor for the Ray Brook Dispatch Center and Communications Specialists.

This position will be responsible for:

Coordination of Day-to-Day Activities of Ray Brook Dispatch

•The Communications Lieutenant will oversee the supervision of the Communication Specialist 1(s) and Communication Specialist 2. This includes, but is not limited to, dispatcher training, scheduling, monitoring time and attendance,performance evaluations, counseling, etc. The Communications Lieutenant will have knowledge of the CSEA union contract and application to Ray Brook Dispatch.

•The Communications Lieutenant will be required to master the performance of all dispatch functions and know the appropriate response protocols. The Communications Lieutenant will work to further develop and periodically update Ray Brook Dispatch Standard Operating guidelines.

•The Communications Lieutenant will coordinate internal and interagency collaboration related to DEC Dispatch with the Division of Law Enforcement, Spills,and other programs.

•The Communications Lieutenant will be trained and expected to master applications such as eJustice, the DEC Dispatch system, DECALS, LATS, VCC,TRACS, CALTOPO, Spills reporting, and Motobridge radio system. Strong computer skills are required. The Communications Lieutenant will ensure dispatcher proficiency in all dispatch-related programs.

•The Communications Lieutenant will serve as the Terminal Area Coordinator(TAC) for Ray Brook Dispatch, manage accounts, train users in the use of thee Justice Portal and serve as the DFP liaison.

Information Technology and Communication Systems

• The Communications Lieutenant will act as the DFP liaison with the Division of Operations to coordinate purchase and issuance of replacement radio equipment including portables, mobiles, base stations, Motobridge, etc. as needed. The Communications Lieutenant will be responsible for Division radio inventory and radio system operations and programming.

• The Communications Lieutenant will work with and participate in the DEC radio group to maintain/upgrade the radio system.

• The Communications Lieutenant will work directly with the DFP Training Unit to set up training programs for DFP members to assist them in learning the proper use of any new Dispatch program, equipment and/or communications systems.

The Forest Ranger Communications Lieutenant is expected to travel occasionally. They will be eligible to receive advanced communications and mapping training. The Communications Lieutenant will perform various special projects as assigned by the Administrative Major or their designee.

Reinstatement Eligible - Previously held the title on a permanent competitive basis or held a title as indicated under the transfer eligible section on a permanent competitive basis.
