Job Specifics
Minimum Qualifications A minimum of ten years of program and/or project management experience, including the following:
- A minimum of five years of experience in designing and maintaining project plans for multiple projects;
- A minimum of five years of experience managing large, complex implementations and upgrades;
- A minimum of five years of technology; and
- A minimum of five years of experience managing public sector projects.
A Bachelor's Degree in computer science or business administration substitutes up to 4 years of experience. A Master's Degree in computer science or business administration substitutes up to 5 years of experience.
Preferred qualifications:
- Project management on large scale enterprise-wide technology implementations;
- Expertise with business and process reengineering methodologies;
- Ability to use a variety of tools for project tracking and reporting;
- Experience leading cross-functional teams that use business process analysis to discover and recommend solutions to leverage best practices and avoid customizations;
- Experience managing executive level communication including executive briefings.
Duties Description The New York State Office of Information Technology Services (ITS) is seeking a Project Manager with extensive IT project management experience to serve as the primary contact with various interdisciplinary teams and oversee all project activities from an IT perspective, including standard project management methodologies, business requirement development, technology architecture, approval of deliverables, and status reporting to project teams and executive management.
As the IT project manager responsible for coordination of cross functional teams involved in the implementation of new systems and the modernization of existing systems, the primary responsibilities of the Project Manager include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Managing the IT project teams focused on the delivery and implementation of business and technology solutions.
- Managing project development from initiation to closure.
- Working with project technical team leads and stakeholders to outline scope, goals, deliverables, resources, budget and timing of projects.
- Working with executive leadership to develop business requirements, communication plans, and risk assessments.
- Developing, maintaining, and monitoring master project schedule.
- Clearly communicating expectations to team members and stakeholders and acting as a mediator between technical and business project teams.
- Resolving issues and problems throughout the project life cycle.
- Tracking and reporting on project milestones and providing status reports to management.
- Leading, coaching, and motivating project team members on a proactive basis.
