Minimum Qualifications MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
§70.1 Transfer: One year of permanent competitive or 55b/c service as a Senior Librarian, Senior Librarian (Law), Senior Librarian (Medicine), Senior Librarian (Reference), or Senior Librarian (Technical Processes).
Provisional Appointment to Librarian 1: A Master's degree from a program accredited by the American Library Association.
Provisional Appointment to Librarian 2: A Master's degree from a program accredited by the American Library Association AND one year of full-time post-degree professional library experience.
Provisional Appointment to Senior Librarian: A Master's degree from a program accredited by the American Library Association AND two years of full-time post-degree professional library experience.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Preference may be given to candidates who have:
• Experience working with deaf students; and
• The ability to communicate through ASL/Sign Language.
Duties Description The NYS Education Department’s School for the Deaf (NYSSD) is seeking applicants to fill a Senior Librarian position. Major responsibilities of this position will include, but are not limited to, the following:
• Research and purchase books, magazines, and periodicals appropriate for the students;
• Collaborate with Instructors on interdisciplinary projects;
• Support Instructors with research engines appropriate for the students;
• Develop lesson plans and provide instruction to students in accordance with NYS Standards;
• Represent NYSSD on local and regional committees;
• Maintain a resource catalog of all materials contained in the library;
• Attend monthly technology committee meetings;
• Create an open and welcoming atmosphere for the students and staff in the library; and
• Provide support for the students and staff in locating materials necessary to complete research papers.
Additional Comments CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT: Fingerprinting through the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Department of Criminal Justice Services, a background check with the Office of Children and Family Services and clearance from the Justice Center Staff Exclusion List is required for employment. This will be a permanent or provisional appointment. Promotions and transfers may change appointees’ negotiating unit. Applicants should be aware that changes in negotiating units may affect their salary, insurance, and other benefits. The salary listed above applies to candidates appointed to Senior Librarian, SG-19. The hiring rate for candidates appointed to Librarian 1 starts at $44,370 and the hiring rate for candidates appointed to Librarian 2 starts at $49,488, and for current NYS employees, is based on the candidate’s salary at the time of hire. Candidates hired into a Librarian 1 traineeship will be advanced to Senior Librarian upon successful completion of a two-year traineeship. Candidates hired into a Librarian 2 traineeship will be advanced to Senior Librarian upon the completion of a one-year traineeship.
*Leads to a maximum salary of $70,013 with annual performance advances.
