Job Specifics
Minimum Qualifications Candidates must have a New York State Professional Engineer's License and current registration. To be considered for permanent appointment, candidates must be reachable on the current Civil Service eligible list or be eligible for reassignment or transfer in accordance with Civil Service Law.
In the event that a viable eligible list may not exist in all locations, a provisional appointment may be made in accordance with Civil Service Law. Candidates who accept a provisional appointment must take the next competitive examination and be reachable on the resultant eligible list in order to be considered for a permanent appointment to the position.
Promotion Qualifications: one year of permanent service in a position allocated to Grade 23 or higher AND a New York State Professional Engineer's License with current registration
Duties Description As an Associate Soils Engineer, under the direction of a higher-level manager, the incumbent will supervise/manage a bureau section involved in field, laboratory and office work relating to the design, construction and maintenance of transportation facilities, such as highways, bridges, walls, buildings and waterways.
Duties may include, but are not limited to:
• Scheduling, assigning and monitoring work projects by section staff.
• Preparing budgets and tracking expenditures.
• Developing specifications for innovative geotechnical procedures.
• Interpreting, evaluating and applying Department policies, as they pertain to section responsibilities.
• Advancing/developing training and professional development of section staff.
• Representing the Department in technical matters with consultants, contractors, producers and others.
• Providing technical guidance for Department employees/managers, consultants and others.
• Performing other duties, as required.
Responsibilities may also include participating within the Incident Command System to support the department’s response to regional and statewide emergency situations.
