Job Specifics
Minimum Qualifications Minimum Qualifications: Six years of experience in conducting field investigations or investigations of financial fraud preliminary to civil litigation or criminal prosecution. The experience must include gathering and evaluating intelligence of alleged criminal activity; interviewing and interrogating individuals; and testifying in grand jury or criminal trials in state and/or federal court.
Substitution: An associate’s degree in criminal justice or a related field may substitute for two years of qualifying experience. A bachelor’s degree in criminal justice or a related field may substitute for four years of qualifying experience. Related fields include: law enforcement, police science, criminal justice administration, criminology, criminal investigation, police studies, public justice, forensic accounting, forensic psychology, forensic science, and economic crime management.
Duties Description The Department of Financial Services is seeking an experienced Investigative Specialist 1 (Financial Fraud) to plan, oversee and conduct investigations of alleged fraud involving financial entities and provide technical assistance to law enforcement agencies. Cases involve fraud by employees at banking institutions, mortgage brokers, insurers, and other financial entities; organized crime; and scams involving multiple companies/entities. This may involve travel and undercover operations for extended periods and irregular hours, including weekends, and may require the direct supervision and/or training of subordinate investigators.
This will be a non-competitive appointment. The incumbent will be designated as a peace officer and must be a United States citizen, reside in New York State and maintain New York State residency during employment, as well as meet all other requirements related to peace officer status. Candidates with undercover experience will be given preference.
Additional Comments Appointment to this position is pending Division of Budget approval to fill.
