Job Specifics
Minimum Qualifications Successful completion of a NYS two-year Electrician Traineeship or NYS two-year electrician training program; OR successful completion of any equivalent electrical two-year training or apprenticeship program;* OR four (4) years of full-time experience in the electrical trade under a skilled journey-level electrician which would provide training equivalent to that given in an apprenticeship program. Apprenticeship training in the electrical trade or training gained by completion of technical courses in the electrical trade at a school, institute, or branch of the Armed Services may be substituted on a year-for-year basis.
* Successful completion of the traineeship and the training program includes a total of 288 hours of trade-specific class room instruction, 45 hours of technical math course work, 45 hours of technical communications course work, and 15 hours of blueprint/schematic reading course work. Course work must be completed with an average of C or better. Additionally, successful completion of the traineeship also includes 4,000 hours of on-the-job training.
Duties Description Electricians perform journey level electrician work and frequently supervise others in the repair, maintenance and installation of electrical systems and equipment. An Electrician is responsible for all electrical work including the planning and laying out of work and the diagnosis of trouble in electrical systems or equipment in an assigned area, on an assigned project or for an entire facility.
• Troubleshoot and repair 480, 277,220 and 110Vac systems as well as limited DC systems.
• Install electrical fixtures such as but not limited to lighting fixtures, switches and receptacles.
• Maintain and repair various types of street and roadway lighting.
• Test and wire motors of various voltages, phases and horse power.
• Run new electrical services at various voltages and amperages according to NFPA 70.
• Maintain electrical distribution panels.
• Maintain various voltage and KVA transformers and related switching.
• Supervise and instruct subordinates in maintenance, installation and repair of electrical systems and equipment
Additional Comments Background Investigation/Justice Center Review:
Prospective appointees will be: 1) Checked against the Staff Exclusion List (SEL) maintained by the Justice Center for the Protection of People with Special Needs. Prospective employees whose names appear on the SEL as having been found responsible for serious or repeated acts of abuse or neglect will be barred from appointment and may have their names removed from the eligible list(s) for the title(s) if applicable. 2) Investigated through a Criminal Background Check (CBC), which includes State and federal Criminal History Record Checks. All convictions must be reported; conviction of a felony or misdemeanor, or any falsified or omitted information on the prospective appointee’s employment application, may bar appointment or result in removal after appointment. Each case will be determined on its own merits, consistent with the applicable provisions of State and federal laws, rules, and regulations. Prospective employees will be fingerprinted in order to obtain a record of their criminal history information, and may be required to pay any necessary fees. 3) Screened against the Statewide Central Register of Child Abuse and Maltreatment (SCR). Prospective employees may be required to pay any necessary fees. Additionally, prospective employees whose names are indicated on the SCR may be barred from appointment.
This position is eligible for a downstate adjustment of $3,026.
