Job Specifics
Minimum Qualifications Position requires 10+ years of law enforcement experience in a major police department or law enforcement agency, preferably in the area of fraud, including contract and white-collar crime, 5+ years of which included supervisory experience. Excellent interpersonal and writing skills, as well as proficient computer skills and effective interviewing skills are required. High-level experience interacting with other major law enforcement agencies and the ability to oversee multiple and highly sensitive, confidential investigations is necessary. Knowledge of technical equipment used in law enforcement is essential. Must have extensive knowledge in New York State criminal law and procedure. Must have extensive knowledge of design-build construction projects; and the construction industry. Experience managing and coordinating multi-disciplinary investigative teams as well as conducting internal investigations is necessary. Must be willing to work unscheduled hours and travel when necessary. Bachelor’s degree required. Salary is commensurate with experience.
Duties Description The Chief Investigator works under the supervision of the serving Deputy Inspector General for Investigations and/or Deputy Inspector General/Legal and reports directly to executive management. The Chief Investigator is responsible for the daily oversight and management of the Suffern Investigative Unit. Supervising a team of investigators, the Chief Investigator assigns and monitors the progress of all cases in the Suffern office, conducts case reviews, manages a caseload, conducts interviews and prepares and reviews written reports for submission to executive staff; works closely with executive staff to monitor the progress of all cases assigned to the Suffern office; attends to special circumstances that arise, and coordinates the efforts of the Unit as it relates to the mission of NYSIG; serves as liaison to other law enforcement and governmental entities. This position is in the exempt class and the incumbent serves at the pleasure of the State Inspector General.
Additional Comments Salary is commensurate with experience.
