Minimum Qualifications MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Reassignment: One year of permanent competitive or 55b/c service as a Secretary 2.

Section 70.1 Transfer: One year of permanent competitive or 55b/c service in a title SG-13 or above deemed eligible for transfer under Section 70.1. Candidates must also be able to pass a typing proficiency exam.

Eligible List Appointment: Candidates who are reachable on the Secretary 2 eligible list may be considered for appointment.

NOTE: If you are on the Civil Service eligible list for this title, you may receive a canvass letter. You must complete and return it as instructed on the letter.

Duties Description The New York State Education Department’s Office of Cultural Education is seeking candidates for a Secretary 2 position in the Office of the Deputy Commissioner. The incumbent of this position will be responsible for the coordination and management of the support work for the Deputy Commissioner. Other duties of this position include, but are not limited to, the following:

• Maintain the Deputy Commissioner’s calendar and schedule of activities;
• Assist in the day-to-day administrative activities of the office;
• In consultation with the Deputy Commissioner, assist with the preparation of the official committee minutes for Regents Cultural Education Committee;
• Work independently to prepare, gather and coordinate materials on a daily basis;
• Prepare letters, documents and reports, including formatting, proofreading, and distributing;
• Serve as the liaison between the Office of the Deputy Commissioner and Department staff, Board of Regents, Legislature, State agencies, other outside cultural organizations and the general public;
• Coordinate activities related to speaking engagements and meetings including but not limited to, arrangements for logistics, room arrangements, equipment, presentation materials and travel arrangements; and
• Review incoming correspondences and reports, via in-person, telephone and e-mail as appropriate.

Additional Comments CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT: This will be a permanent appointment. Promotions and transfers may change appointees’ negotiating unit. Applicants should be aware that changes in negotiating units may affect their salary, insurance, and other benefits.

*Leads to a maximum salary of $61,300 based on annual performance advances.
